Default 2012/2013 RX 350 Recall

From CNN Money:

http://money.cnn.com/2014/02/12/auto...all/index.html

2012/2013 RX 350s included -

Toyota is recalling 2.1 million of its Prius, RAV4, Tacoma and Lexus vehicles globally because of a software problem that could cause cars to stop suddenly.

The automaker said it needs to update the software in those vehicles because of a problem with electronic circuits that could shut off functions for vehicle stability control, anti-lock brake and traction control.

But even if those systems shut down, the brakes will remain "fully functional," said Toyota.

According to the article, the hybrid RX (RX450h) is not being recalled. Just the '12-'13 RX350.

Toyota said neither the Prius V nor Prius c models were affected, nor were any other Toyota or Lexus hybrids.

A total of 1.9 million Prius models are affected worldwide. Toyota said neither the Prius V nor Prius c models were affected, nor were any other Toyota or Lexus hybrids. Starting this month, Toyota dealers will update the ECU software to fix the problems.

Toyota is also recalling 260,000 non-hybrid models to fix more electrical problems that can cause the stability control, traction control and anti-lock brakes to "intermittently turn off." The 2012 RAV4, 2012-2013 Tacoma and 2012-2013 Lexus RX 350 are all affected.

February 12, 2014
TORRANCE, Calif., February 12, 2014 – Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc., today announced that it is advising the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of plans to conduct voluntary safety recalls of approximately 700,000 Model Year 2010-2014 Prius vehicles and, combined, approximately 300,000 Model Year 2012 Toyota RAV4, 2012-2013 Toyota Tacoma, and 2012-2013 Lexus RX 350 vehicles sold in the United States to address two separate issues.

Toyota will update the motor/generator control ECU and hybrid control ECU software on certain Model Year 2010-2014 Prius vehicles

The software’s current settings could result in higher thermal stress in certain transistors, potentially causing them to become damaged. If this happens, various warning lights will illuminate and the vehicle can enter a failsafe mode. In rare circumstances, the hybrid system might shut down while the vehicle is being driven, resulting in the loss of power and the vehicle coming to a stop.

Toyota will update the skid control ECU software on certain 2012 Toyota RAV4, 2012-2013 Toyota Tacoma, and 2012-2013 Lexus RX 350 models in order to address an electronic circuit condition that can cause the Vehicle Stability Control, Anti-lock Brake, and Traction Control functions to intermittently turn off. If these systems are off, standard braking operation remains fully functional.

Toyota has received no reports of accidents or injuries associated with either condition.

As part of these recalls, owners of affected vehicles will receive a software update free of charge. Owners will be notified by first class mail when the software updates are available at their dealers.

Detailed information is available to customers at www.toyota.com/recall and by calling the Toyota Customer Experience Center at 1-800-331-4331.

Lexus customers can visit www.lexus.com/recall or call the Lexus Customer Satisfaction Center at 1-800-25-LEXUS (1-800-255-3987).

Right. Looks like it only affects certain cars. I went on to lexusdrivers web site but didn't see the recall notice for my car.

The recall doesn't have anything to do with limp mode for the 350. The recall is for hybrids (Prius) going into limp mode.

2nd part of the recall pertaining to the 350 involves an electronic circuit condition that can cause the Vehicle Stability Control, Anti-lock Brake, and Traction Control functions to intermittently turn off. If these systems are off, standard braking operation remains fully functional.
