Default E-Brake Loud Clunk Noise

Hi All,

Just picked up a new 2014 rx fsport and 75% of the time I release the e-brake it has a loud clunk as if metal smashing metal. I tried releasing it really slow and it still does the same. The vehicle is parked on flat pavement. Any thoughts? Is anyone else experiencing this. It is not a low click noise that I am used to but a loud clunk.

Thanks.

Rey

Did the car move a little when you released the E-brake?
If yes, it's probably the brake pads are shifting.
Your car is new, Just bring it to the dealership. They can grease up the pads.
Nothing to worry about. Just time consuming.
Well known issue with latest RX350.

If you use the search features here at CL for the forums you will find this is neither new nor unique to the 2014 RX350. For example:

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...ake-clunk.html

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...oise-gone.html

Next time you are in for service make sure you talk to the service writer to inspect just in case.

Thanks for the input. It is just that the noise is so loud. I probably will make a trip to the dealership. The funny thing is that it only happens once or twice and once it does it the first time, it doesn't do it the other times.

Thanks again. And no the car didn't move when I released the e-brake because I step on the brake before I release the e-brake.

Thanks for the links. I actually read both of those and I am more like the first link but it didn't have a resolution to the issue. Also, those appear to be for the 2010 or 2011 rx, which I would think by now they would have solved the issue.

As for the second link, when I read it, they said "clapping", mine is more like a piece of metal hitting metal, but maybe they mean the same thing. I will likely go make an appointment to find out what is going on. The first time my wife heard it, it sounded like something broke.

Thanks again for the reply.

Yes, it can be very hard to decipher what is being described in some of these posts when it comes to problems such as yours. What I was trying to point out is that the matter is nothing new. It also seems to be somewhat hard to reproduce on demand which is essential when talking to the service folks. Not sure what it is specifically but it seems that Lexus has not sorted it out quite yet. When you go in to have this checked hopefully they will make the appropriate adjustments. Also, see if you can get a 2014 RX for your loaner so you can try to reproduce the problem in that for a comparison.
