The Automatic Sound Levelizer (ASL) to me is gimmick, I can't hear the difference in three different Lexus vehicles I've driven. Please let me know if the ASL works in your vehicle and how you made it work, thank you. I really hope I am not the one unhappy with this feature and
if I find a lot of us to be experiencing the same thing, we should contact Lexus and either fix the problem or give us a refund for false advertisement.

 

it is completely works, you can drive to 60km/hour, and then open your window, you will notice that the volume is going up, especially the bass. If you do not open the window, the volume change is based on the speed and the noisy, it is not a significantly noticeable change, because Lexus was already very quite. HAHA

 

Just drive at a constant speed on the highway and turn on and off the feature. It certainly does make things louder (bass especially) but it usually isnt enough

 

I actually turned mine off on my 2010 because I felt it gets really loud, particularly if I have the sunroof open. On my 2007 RX, I felt the ASL was useless, as I didn't notice any difference.

You dont necessarily need to drive with the windows open to notice the ASL at work, but it is one way of testing it.

The ASL works to compensate for the loss of some sound quality as you drive faster and the road noise intrude into the cabin. Standing still or at lower speeds, you will notice no difference.

 

The correct name for this system is the auto sound levelizer system. It's the one that raises and lowers the radio volume to match the vehicle speed. Mine does not work. I took it back to the dealer and the best they could do is say they compared it to a new one and it works the same. So, normal, they say.

Anyone else have this issue. Any suggestions. It's a feature I like a lot and was looking forward to using.

 

Even though I set the ASL to "on", I can't detect any difference unless we're at freeway speeds (65-75+ mph) and then it seems the sound level has been raised only a tiny amount--almost undetectable by my ears. Not a good system IMHO.

 

So, I'm a new owner of the Rx350 2010. Auto sound level does not seem to do anything in mine either. Used have 2002 Es 300 and It had the same feature, but one was able to hear the difference in sound level. As you picked up speed and surrounding noise level went up, so did the music volume. This does not seem to be the case with my 2010 RX350.

 

I would agree. ASL (with Mark Levinson in my case) in my 2013 RX450h is not as effective as it was in my 2006 RX400h also with Mark Levinson, or even my 2002 SC430 top up OR down (where it worked pretty dang good).

I fiddle with volume more in my 2013 RX than I ever have in previous Lexi. I wrote it off to my aging-self . While I'm sad about the functionality, you guys made my day as my hearing must not be as bad as I thought. THANK YOU!

 

Just wanted to chime in in the hopes that Lexus is listening. I rented a terrible Chevy Traverse and the ASL was much better in that. What's up Lexus?

Also, the Traverse had adjustable levels for their ASL implementation: Off, Low, Medium High. Seriously, what the heck Lexus?

 

I have just the regular premium sound system and i also have mine set to ON and I dont notice any difference either. System sucks!

 

Like Bert I am glad to know it's not my hearing! Previous to my 2008 Rxh I drove Chevy Suburbans for many years. My 2007 Suburban had ASL and it actually worked; not just at highway speeds either. You could hear the difference even at 40mph. At highway speeds it cranked up significantly such that you would notice as it was reducing the effect in a quick stop.

 

We bought a new 2001 Ford Expedition that had an ASL implementation like you described, including the three settings (Low, Med, High) for amount of amplification desired. It worked flawlessly for the 3 years we kept the truck. This was 13 years ago, and Lexus can't come up with something that works? Yeah, what the heck?

 

Try winding down the windows and see what the difference is. I have no issues with my ASL
