So this is kind of a dumb question. Really no benefit for asking it just out of curiosity. Did Lexus change the rear headrest? On mine 2010 it can be pushed all the way down too the seat like most Lexus/Toyota cars. But I noticed that it seems the newer RX head rest no longer do that. Yet the Lexus gallery shows two setups. Does anyone know how this is decided?

the headrest I have and have seen on most rx

New headrest maybe?

Personally, I like the head rest that can be pushed into the seat as I am assuming you can get better rear visibility.

wow, good observation! I actually never noticed that.

If its true that Lexus did change the design, I really can't see what the benefits are. Maybe someone here knows the real answer, I'm curious to find out as well.

It looks like the new one would provide better whiplash protection.

Just looked at used RX's on our lot. It appears they changed to the new style in 2011.

My guess would be cost savings. The rear look the same as so many other past Toyota models. I am not 100% percent but I think that design of the angled older head rest was the same as the last gen Camry for the rear seat.

So with that model being out of production in 2011, a new part was needed. ???

It's funny, take a look at the same pic with the different head rests and notice there is a dial to control the nav instead of the Remote Touch system. I bet that is a Proto vehicle or a very good rendering.

The non nav equipped vehicles with display audio get the dial control.

yes I think you are right. I also realized that it seems to be hybrid with the old headrests since it has vents under the backseat. and don't hybrids come with standard nav so they can display the hybrid information. Also does anyone have 13 hybrid RX? Which version of the headrest do you guys have?

Missing Rear Head Rests - Looking for Correct Fit / Alternative
Hi everyone,

I'm new to my very first Lexus (RX 450h) and unfortunately the vehicle did not come with rear head rests. I'm trying to find them on Ebay, Craigslist, etc but they are exceedingly difficult for me to find in my color. My question is: do any other Lexus (or Toyota) models use the same type of rear head rests? If another Lexus used the same part, that would help me broaden my search options. Additionally, does Toyota use the same type of rear head rest and type of leather?

Thank you for any advice,

David

My December 2012 built RX450h (hence MY13) has the lower rear head rests. Not sure whether the MY13 in Australia is different to MY13 in USA.
