Wink What would you change?

As far as the RX design and features.. here is my list (as best I can remember it, I'll probably add more as I remember things):

1. Illuminate the overhead buttons (apparently Lexus did on the '13 models, but it isn't retrofittable to the earlier ones.)

2. Add mute to the radio whenever the navi system makes an announcement. How they missed this totally baffles me. Would seem doable in updated firmware for the GPS/Audio system.

3. Have a digital speed readout in the center LCD display (between the gauges.) This is super handy on my Cayenne, I almost never look at the regular speedometer, and it's lots easier to set cruise to "speeding-ticket-territory minus 1MPH..

4. Add a clock function to the center LCD display. The green one on the dash isn't handy to the eye for the driver - and why the heck was it green?

5. Some sort of open tray area on the console to toss things like a cell phone or wallet in when driving. Doesn't have to be big, just has to be handy and flattish.

6. 12V outlet for the rear seat in the back of the center console. Again - something people find quite handy on my Cayenne. Or put it in the armrest storage bin.

7. Have a screen on the GPS/audio display for the XM-Sirius channels - in a scrolling format so you can quickly scroll down to the station you want.

8. Change the color scheme (or allow the user to change it) for the GPS display screen. Somehow the display for functions like the audio and phone just looks sort of old fashioned and cheesy. Looks like graphics on an old 649x489 screen. We know the screen is capable of better, just let us set it and give us a firmware update.

9. Have a "Cancel Nav" button. It can be done by removing the current destination, but it sure isn't easy.

10. Have a route planning function on the GPS - allowing the user to put in multiple destinations and let the GPS stitch them into a route. Porsche has this (in a system designed in 2003, but regularly updated firmware from Porsche.)

11. Interface from Google Maps to the GPS. BMW and other cars have this. The BMW system allows you to send points to the car and then use them to create a route. There are some fast route planning tools on the web primarily for motorcycle GPS routing (to Garmin systems) that really make complex route planning a snap - and once created the app will download the route as "waypoints" (with GPS coordinates) to the GPS and you tell the GPS to create a route from them. That way the GPS uses it's maps to create the route Since the pay for service from Lexus can send destination points to the GPS (I assume via the XM-Sirius link) - this would seem quite doable..

12. Have the ability to send the recorded "bread-crumb" (forget what Lexus calls it - but it's where the GPS records where you've been) to something like Google maps, or export it to a USB memory stick (where it could be sent to Google.) This would allow documenting trips using an easily available web based tool.

13. Move the odometer/trip meter button where you can actually SEE it. DUMB spot it's in now, hidden behind the steering wheel. Ditto on the dash brightness control.

14. Heated/cooled seat controls.. well, they're also in just a dumb spot now (were these moved for 2013?)

I think that's my list for now.. I'll probably add more later. I'm certain someone at Lexus reads this forum - since the overhead buttons are now illuminated - and it's simply very smart business on the part of any manufacturer... so perhaps some of the things involving a simple firmware update (GPS/audio stuff, the center display) could be put into the loop and advertised. I'd pay to have those changes made and capabilities added. I realize the other physical changes I suggested aren't going to be retrofitttable, but should be considered for any freshening done or for the design of Series-4.

Still need ALL buttons illuminated. even on the 2013 although they have improved it

better v6, direct injection with cylinder deactivation. I don't think they want to kill hybrid sales.

8 speed automatic standard.

Cheap looking clock. casio 1990. it is white in mine not green.

heads up display has the digital speedo on the windshield.

Deilenberg. I agree with a couple of your points like the Odo/Trip button location and lack of Cancel Nav button and probably at the bottom of my list. Here is my wish list of amenities/features I'd like to see, in order of largest pet peeve to smallest:

1. LARGER SUNGLASSES HOLDER (Same problem with my CT. My sunglasses don't fit!)

2. Bring back the Lexus-vault DOOR CLOSE FEEL AND SOUND. My CT's front doors feel heavy (in a good way) and solid compared to the RX and the sound when closing, is like a bank vault. Previous IS was similar and Gen 2 RXs not as good as the CT/IS, but a little better than Gen 3. I think the larger/taller door due to the design to cover the sill has something to do with it - No need for this design Lexus IMO. I can lift my leg up to avoid scuffing/dirtying my pants if it means getting back that solid feel.

3. Dedicated windshield DE-ICER BUTTON (have to navigate a few clicks to engage it)

4. SUB-FLOOR "TRUNK" to house the tonneau cover like in the Gen 2 (miss this a lot)

5. Bring back dedicated RADIO STATION BUTTONS (steering wheel scrolling gets me and wife often out of the set list and onto the Sat stations which I am not subscribed to)

6. Rear passenger DOOR SUNSHADES (nice to have like most other Lexus vehicles have)

7. REAR HVAC controls (should be there in this price/class)

8. Height-ADJUSTABLE REAR POWER DOOR.

I'm being VERY picky with the above and the vehicle is AWESOME.

Yes, several items the same as others. Nothing major. Just my list based off my 2013 RX450h for Lexus consideration in their pursuit of perfection:
  • Bring back AFS with Bi-Xenon and LED Headlights
  • Make the "passthru" area between driver and passenger legs/feet more usable. At least get rid of the sculpted curves in the bottom and replace with felt/carpeted material so things don't roll around.
  • Relocate the US SOS button and bring back a decent sized sunglasses holder
  • Allow Sport Mode to be selected and stay as a default
  • Bring back some amount of rear cargo area storage under the mat, please!
  • Add backup camera guidlines similar to what competitors have, and allow them to be turned on an off by user selection
  • Enhance HUD with user-selectable option displays (e.g. track/album name, etc)
  • Bring back audio fade in/out when voice commands come on, just as Gen2 had
  • Improve Voice Command Recognition for more people. Add a "driver customization" learning option as competition has to improve recognition. Add more common sayings to do things and publish the complete list in writing.
  • Improve Mark Levinson bass
  • Bring back audio spatial selection presets like Gen2
  • Replace SiriusXM NavTraffic with free FM-Based traffic
  • Interface Nav to Google-Maps like BMW & Mercedes-Benz
  • Provide a ticker-tape scroll of album/song text on ALL screens where that information exceeds the width (approx 16 char max on some screens now)
  • Move the seating heat/cool buttons to a usable and visible location
  • Fix exterior chrome strips and rest of vehicle (e.g. hatch) to eliminate drips when washing and drying. Gen2 did not have as significant a problem as Gen3.
  • Eliminate or enhance optional cushion extenders to really extend out further
  • Add a Siri button and functionality (like Mercedes Benz has introduced)
  • Make the manuals available in single, downloadable, PDF format

I also believe the whole Enform, RES+, on-board Apps, etc strategy needs to be rethought, reorganized, and refocused on by Lexus to be more reliable, more competitive, more useful, and show customers true dedication to this evolving environment with at least annual enhancements. This is beyond the RX-alone, and this thread, but I had to get it in somewhere FWIW.

I agree to an extent with all. I really wish they would have lit up the homelink buttons though.

For the F-sport model give an extra 60 HP or knock off 1 second off 0-60 so that the F-sport is really f-sport. Think M or AMG.
Give it the same interior color choices like the normal RX. Not everyone likes the morbid black interior for cry out loud.
The wood trim should be an accent that stand out from the black leather. Currently one cannot tell apart the wood trim from the interior leather.
HID should come standard or at least come with most cars. Is it too much to expect HID on such luxury expensive suv?

Some fabulous suggestions, and many of them, well, unfortunately, are just plain obvious. I imagine many of these are on Lexus's radar, as some have been on previous years, so its prob. an issue of cost for many options....its a mid priced car....but maybe they need to re think that as well, offering an RX, and RXT, Titanium model...I see this on some cars now, where price can range from x, to 3x. The RX is an ideal car due to its high volume to allow for wide price range to satisfy more buyers.

I would add some simple things, like, (on RX350), give us voltage gauge, oil pressure gauge.... where is access to tire pressure? Most modern cars offer a "flip through" option that enables you to scroll through all the gauges... why does Lexus assume we never want or need this information?? Looks like I will have to opt for a Scantool and display info on smartphone screen.

As for major changes, which is rumored for 14, offer a longer version, similar to Highlander length. I don't care about 3rd row seat, just a few more feet of cargo. The car can handle this slight stretch without any major mods.

too bad Lexus never reads this stuff.... I mean, why pay attention to what buyers want? :-)

Would be nice for Lexus to offer a 360 degree around view camera; All LED interior light; Air pressure display for each tire on screen.

Great suggestions from people.

There are some of the things that I'm sure Lexus could offer to older RX's.. anything in the firmware should be able to be modified - so adding lines to the back-up camera (Porsche ones are really neat - they move as you turn the wheel backing up showing you the actual path the car will take) should be no big deal. Adding different display options for the GPS/Audio screens - ditto, not a big deal to do in software/firmware. The changes to the GPS muting audio - trivial in software to do.. as should be a scrolling display of Sirius/XM stations.

Adding a few more display options for the center LCD display. That might be an ideal place to add a "page" allowing you to scan through a set of simulated gauges for volts/oil-pressure/etc. Right now I have two sets of pages - one for the snow mode switch, and the other for everything else (mostly the OBC display, and ECO display.) The lack of other options makes the "page" function about useless.

Tire pressure display - should be doable, the receiver in the vehicle knows the pressures, just has to send it somewhere to be displayed (like on the multi-display GPS/screen.)

So - Lexus - I'm sure you're listening. How about giving some consideration to relentlessly pursuing perfection even on trucks you've already sold by providing after-sale support for new features? I'm sure most of us would happily pay to add functionality.

As far as the RX being a mid-price vehicle, with most of the most popular options selected it's started moving toward the very top of what I'd consider a mid-priced range is. It's trivial to get the cost of one new over $43,000, and that's starting to sound like real money to me. The feature set should at least be comparable (or hopefully better) then the fully-loaded Kia Sorento (at $38,000 after some dickering) offers, Cars like the KIA and Hundai are going to be chomping on Lexus' butt before long. The new models coming from the Korean automakers have caught the attention of the German/Euro manufacturers - I would hope Lexus is thinking of ways to show they offer greater value besides fancy dealer showrooms.

I second these things:
Add backup camera guidlines similar to what competitors have, and allow them to be turned on an off by user selection
Move the seating heat/cool buttons to a usable and visible location
I also love to see:
- touch to open rear doors (extremely needed when getting baby/small kid in first)
- mirror to view back seats
- turn on/off/override back seat lights

Agree with just about everything (sorry, Dolphin - disagree with the added length.)

I haven't moved up to the third generation for these reasons:

1. I can't believe nobody brought up the "harsh" ride, at least compared to the second generation.

2. Redesign the console so that there's more right knee room and no sharp-edged seam between the plastic sections.

3. Bring back wheels similar to the '08 hybrid. Solid but STYLED 5-spoke.

4. Bring back "performance" of the second gen. hybrid. I still don't understand how they managed to make it SLOWER.

5. In typical Toyota fashion, the electronics are YEARS behind Ford, Nissan...you name it.

Send the needles back to the 70s. The entire dash should be a display system wrapping from pillar to pillar, completely customizable and drag enabled via a remote physical or virtual touch control. For example, move the audio or nav display to passenger side, allow them to change while driving, and drag it easily back to the driver's view. Allow any display to be dragged up into HUD configuration.

Scrap the simplistic BSM, bid adieu to the power folding option, get rid of physical side view mirrors completely . Project a holographic 3D image onto the front part of the side window area to create an image from 45d in front of the vehicle to directly behind including tire/curb proximity (eliminating the front pillar blind spot as well as the rear, reducing wind noise, simplify parking).

Forget the backup camera. Review view mirror should be a combo monitor/mirror. Displaying full range 180% view behind the vehicle using augmented reality technology to display distances, other objects in motion, threat indicator. Should be integrated to the windshield instead of hanging from it.

HUD display should also use augmented reality, exaggerating lane markings (thinking wet roads at night), color filtering oncoming headlights, thermal (night) / indicator box (day) depiction of pedestrians or other animals on or near the road.

Adjustable steering wheel ratio settings. Adjustable power massager in seat backs.

An audio system that actually makes the average person say "Nice!".

Great suggestions, but I assume mostly from males. There needs to be a place to put a handbag! When there's a passenger I had to buy a basket to put on the floor in the back.
Adjustable hatch so it fits better with some garage doors when opened.
