Default Built in Japan or Canada

Hi,

I am ordering a 2013 Starfire RX350 F-Sport with HUD, BSM, and Mark Levinson. My salesperson is telling me that my RX350 F-Sport will be built in Japan not Canada..is he right? Thank you!

As far as I know from my Lexus dealer, all RX's are built in Canada. I special ordered my Lexus and it came from the plant in Canada. It took 6 weeks for the car to arrive.

Default Built in Canada eh!

The Rx 350 is built in both Canada and Japan. The RX450H is only built in Japan.
Not sure if the F sport is built in Canada too? Look at one in a showroom and if the vin starts with a J, then it is built in Japan. Canadian built models will have a vin starting with 2T.
Hope this helps,
Jim

The F-Sport probably comes from Japan just like 350s with the sport package (no longer available). Maybe someone here with an F-Sport can confirm this by looking at their VIN like Jim mentioned. BTW the 450h will be built in Canada soon so it'll be hard to tell where an RX comes from.

I found some F-sports in a dealers inventory and they had a VIN beginning with the 2T which according to an earlier post would make it built in Canada

Honestly I've driven at 4 RXs in the last 2 weeks, half and half Japan and Canana built...I couldnt tell you the difference in the "quality." I did find the Canadian one had cheaper carpeting in the trunk hatch area, it wasnt as sleek and smooth as the japanese one. The wood trim didnt match in the Canada one. But the ride quality, number of rattles, fit and finish of pannels, seemed the same.

I have an F-Sport and it was built in Canada. From what I recall, any VIN that starts with "2T" is from Canada while "JT" is from Japan.

^^ Correct. The first letter of the VIN tells where it was built/assembled. 2nd letter is the maker.

I just checked my VIN. It starts with 2T. 2013 RX in stargazer. I didn't realize that they even build Lexus in Canada! Oh we'll I hope it is as good as a Japanese one. What do the other numbers in the VIN mean? Any way to tell where in Canada it was assembled?

There is a tag on the driver's door frame. It tells you the factory/city/country where the car was assembled and also the manufactured date.

Here is how to decode a VIN:

Definitely would not have thought the F-Sport was built in Canada. Thanks for checking. Lexus starting building the RX in Canada back in August 2003 just as the 2nd gen was coming out. I wouldn't mind taking a tour of the plant to see an F-Sport being assembled.

so we're not confused, I was just answering his question about where an RX is built in Canada.
Mine( wife's) is just RX350 2013 and was built in Cambridge, Ont CA.
i still suspect the F-Sport is built in Japan as you all have mentioned...thks !
