Default 2010 Rx 350 Towing Prep Question

Help, I had a hitch and the quick connect connector installed by a liscensed installer(Not Lexus). My lights on my trailer will not work. The vehicle has the towing prep package with the wires for the tail lights pre-installed. Why are my lights not working? The fuses and all the resets per the manual were done and sill nothing.

Any ideas???

Thanks,
Phil

If you have a volt meter, check the wiring. If it's good, the only thing left is the trailer wiring. If you wires aren't hot like they should be, then maybe your dealer can fix it under warranty.

Jim,
Thank you for your reply. Uhaul tested the wires and the fuse box had the fuses with no positive reults. A few phone calls were made and the issue is with the pre wiring that came with the tow prep package. When I took it to the dealership they are insisting that I need a relay box in the amount of $261(With labor) even though my vehicle was towing prep ready. Everyone I have asked to include Lexus Salesman have told me that the quick connect should work with no problems. I qoute "Plug and play" easy installation. Before I write a letter to corporate about a potential unethical dealing with my situation, I am trying to find ONE person that says this is what happens to all Tow Prep packages with after market installation.
Please advise,

Thanks Phil

*** The worse part is I called for a price qoute on the installation prior to having a liscensed dealer install my hitch. I was qouted $900. I asked for the breakdown of the costs and dealership said Hitch $285, Quick Connect $45? and the rest was labor. Nothing about a relay box!! The rest was labor costs. I stayed at the licensed installer during the installation and it took him 1.5 hours. The math on a $900 installation does not add up at all. I have multiple concerns about this dealership. The licensed installer charged me $285 for Hitch, quick connect, and installation.

misciagno, would I be correct in assuming you have a FWD RX? Seems that the relay was not included on the 2010 model year for FWD models and has only been included on the AWD models. Do not know if this is still the case.

I found the following:

Standard hitch is only applicable to 4WD vehicles with the towing package(TO) option.

Not applicable to F-Sport RX models

All other RX models require hitch plus the towing converter.

So, seems that if you would have purchased the Lexus hitch from the dealer and had provided your VIN they would have sold you the hitch plus towing converter package. From the Sewell web site there is a difference of around $139 in the retail prices between the package with and without the converter.

At least for the 2010 model year, if you have an AWD RX and buy a third-party hitch and wiring package you are fine. If you have a FWD RX and buy a third-party hitch and wiring package it will not work without the requisite towing converter relay.

You are so wrong. I had a new 2010 FWD RX350 and I installed the Curt hitch and the light connector and everything worked without doing anything but plugging it up. I used it several times before I traded it for the 2013. They may have changed and added the towing converter sometime in the manufacturing year. I think mine was manufactured in May of 2010

They may have. Was going by the Lexus materials presented from Lexus sources. Perhaps it would have been better to have said that if you have a 2010 FWD RX you "may" have a problem and you "may" need to get the converter.
