Default 30,000 mile service?

Here is what my local dealer will do for the 30,000 mile check. Lots of routine stuff and a LOT of money at $489! The only thing that is difficult is the "replace brake fluid".

. Replace engine oil, filter and drain plug gasket
. Rotate tires and advise wear
. Inspect brakes and advise on wear
. Adjust tire pressure
. Inspect under caniage for damage and leaks
. Inspect and top off all fluid levels
. Top offwindshield washer fluid
. Resetm aintenanceli sht
. Replace cabin A/C filter
. Inspect engine air filter
. Re-torque bolts
. Check all external lighting
. Inspect the exhaust system
. Inspect chassis components
. Inspect fuel and vapor system
connections
. Replace brake fluid
. Perform lexus
Multi-Point check
. Road test vehicle
. Replace keyless entry
remote battery
. Includes car wash
and vacuum

are they going to give you a kiss when when they are done with all the work? You could take it to a Toyota dealer and have it do all this work for less than $ 250. The biggest part would be to have the replace the brake fluid which is just under $100 and then the oil change and the tire rotation which should also be under $100 .. Yes you will have to wait for the car or have them drive you home and pick you up and not get to use a loner car but as you can see you pay for that car at the Lexus dealership.

You can do many of the items on the list yourself (remote battery, cabin filter, windshield wiper fluid, tire pressure, engine air filter, check external lighting, car wash, etc.). Then just get a quote on the remaining items. Other local maintenance options can be cheaper.

I had my 30k service done at the Toyota dealer and the cost was just over $100.00. I do my own air and cabin air filter change and the keyfob batteries. The only thing they didn't do was the brake fluid change. I will get this done at a later date. Your warranty will still be good!

The biggest problem here is not the $489...is what are they going to find in a 30k miles car...those items that they check is not because thay are being nice, is because there is a big potential find things that they "consider" requieres repairs or replacement.
No, I don't mean we are being cheated because they do the work and they do the replacement parts, the question that I always have is "..do the vehicle REALLY need it"....that 30K miles "check up" could easily become a $900 trip to the dealer depending on what they "find in need of repair and/or replacement"

You need to keep up the maintenance schedule if you want Lexus to honor your car's warranty.

Your 30k is a major service you shouldn't skip. It's not only an oil/filter change, the brake fluid really needs to be changed at 30k. If you don't and something goes south, you could be voiding your warranty.

Can't say I ever remember having the brake fluid changed on any car. I have a Ford Windstar with 130,000 on it and I don't think it's ever been changed.

Brake fluid breaks down like all other fluids-the 30k change is a smart move.

When I bought my RX the sales manager recommended I do at least the 30k check up with Lexus/ Toyota and have it documented, otherwise he said they could not resale the car as a Certified Vehicle, when I traded it in. He said they would be able to give me more $ for the RX at trade in time if I did the 30k Maintenance.

My dad hasn't had it changed on any of his past cars also (all driven past 150k). Im sure its smart to change it though. My question for yall is what if i had whats recommended in the 30K service done at a local shop/ Toyota instead of the Lexus dealership, would they still honor my warranty if I needed any work?
