Default Can't Decide On Tint Percentage

I have a 2010 Lexus RX350 in obsidian with the ebony interior and I'm having a hard time deciding how dark I should go. I know it's illegal to go darker then 25% on the front two windows in Texas but I also want to go over the factory tint on the rear windows and the back. So what do y'all think I should do? My appointment to get my windows done is at 1pm tomorrow. I need to decide by then as I don't want to redo tint for the 3rd time. If y'all can post pics I'd appreciate it. Looking for advise and/ or your opinion. Should I play it safe and get 30% on the front two windows and go over the factory rear windows with 15%? Go the illegal route and get 15% on the front windows and dont do anything to the rears? Go the illegal route again and get 15% on the front windows and 15% on the rears too? Last option get 30% on the front two and get 30% over the factory rears too?

I wouldn't do anything illegal ... especially since the car is your parent's vehicle. You should discuss it with them to see what their thoughts are on the project. If you get the vehicle interior too dark, it will destroy the ambiance in the car and it will be less pleasant. Most people don't want to drive around in a cave. It sounds like you are undecided. Perhaps you should reschedule your appointment until you have a clearer idea about which way to go. There is not need to rush into the project.

Personally I would get the same % that factory is on the front two windows so they all will match.

I love tint, and IMO thats dark enough.

With that said, you should check with the owner first

Personally, I'd stay with the legal %. I wouldn't want the hassle of being stopped and then having to fix it or remove it anyway. i agree with UCSB it it's your parents car ask them what they want. One of them could get stopped too and they may not like that.

I asked them for their opinion as to what i should do and they said it was up to me. So I guess im gonna stay legal. I will be going over the rear windows with 30% so it wont be too dark but i will have a little more privacy.

Sounds like a good decision. I hope it works out for you.

The factory window is 21%, not 15%. Your installer should be able to match it.

I got my tint done this afternoon and ended up going with 30% on the front and 15% over the back factory tint which brought the total down to 5%. I love the way it turned out. Will post pics tomorrow.

Surprisingly I can still see out at night even with 5% on my windows.

Be sure to warn your parents about the 5%. While younger drivers might have the visual acuity to deal with windows that are darker than the darkest sunglasses in terms of transmission, it is unlikely that older drivers will be able to see properly at night. To put it into perspective, my neutral grey Maui Jim sunglasses are designed for bright, intense sunlight and they are 8%. There is no way I would attempt to drive at night with them. My bronze Maui Jim sunglasses are designed for everyday wear and they are 12%. For driving my best pair is the green HT Maui Jim lens and it is 25%.

I agree, but ever since we bought it they haven't even touched it yet. I guess my build thread post is confusing everyone. They always wanted a Lexus and I needed a car, so they told me they would get me a car but I wouldn't really have a say as to which model. They decided on the rx and gave it to me. They pay for it so I personally consider it theirs even though it's for me. When I had ordered my camaro back in 2009 I paid every penny on that car so it was considered mine since it was paid with the money I saved up from working. At that time they didn't decide what I was going to drive they let me pick since it was my money.

Blacked Out, sweet! I was thinking about the same thing with my '12 RX (White) ... to tint or not to tint?

Sucks that the law prevents it from being evenly tinted. Looks off balanced. Good install never the less.

It will look even better with Starfire Pearl! I love white cars with dark tint.
