Now that you completed this project, is the harness that you tapped in to for power accessible from that front panel under the console? Or must the console be taken apart to add the power outlet. It would be nice if ran in that area and could just be pulled out a bit and power and ground wires connected and soldered in.

We am considering a 2010 since can get a bit better price than a 2011 but actually the location of the power outlets has been a big negative in our book. If we end up with a '10 I would want to do this.

You can buy those power outlets and cover alone from Lexus. I wonder if you could take the 2010 panel, drill 2 proper sized holes and add 2 outlets.

I was looking at adding an USB style Aux. jack in our '10, without the Nav. package.
Turned out the head unit required changing as well so I let it go.

 

Do you have the part number or numbers for the new pieces?

 

I see you tapped the red wire to the green wire. Where did you tap the neg wire onto? Thanks for the post.

Looked up part number at Sewelll & Lexus of Atlanta: 58818A. There are 3 variations for the ivory, gray or black interior colors and there may be variations depending on if you have a Japan or Canada built car. I would call to be sure you have the correct one before ordering online.

You can ground the negative wire to any bolt or screw that touches the metal floor.

 

Would love an update on this from anyone who has done it.

1) Does the center console need to come apart? Or can I just unsnap the small little piece with the grooves in it where the plug goes in?

2) Someone said you can just buy the OEM plug itself, and not the whole entire plastic part for $42. That true? Got a part number/cost?

3) I saw the white plug on the other side of the power plug. I'm assuming it's just a metal tab or two in there. Tips on how to wire it?

There's really no way I've found to wire up a dash mounted GPS elegantly and hide the wire. This seems like the best way I've seen on here.

 

1) I just took some photos. It was easy to pry out the piece that has the power outlet. Pry from the flat area. Just remove the part that holds the power outlet from the center console. It will pop apart using plastic trim removal tools (Amazon or Harbor Freight) or a flat screwdriver. I did it a few years ago following most of what is in those posts.
2) I bought the Lexus power outlet which came with a new trim piece and then found the OEM plug has a strange wire connector that you will never find the matching other end for unless you go to a few junkyards and tear apart some Lexus and Toyota vehicles. I ditched the OEM power socket and used a generic black one from eBay. They also have them with USB ports next to the 12v socket. I should have used one of those instead. You can just drill a hole in the plastic piece to mount it. I did use the precut trim piece from Lexus after ditching their power outlet, so the $42 was not a complete loss....Not sure how Xrunner1 wired it up unless he fabricated something for that crazy OEM wire connector or got the other half somewhere. I could not find it from a dealer parts department. I also don't know where that white plug came from, I suspect from farther back inside the center console which is why he removed the other trim piece. Just get a fuse tap.
3) I used a fuse tap from the 12 volt outlet fuse from the box under the dash, driver side, I think it is #13 there is a guide on the inside part of the cover. I ran a wire under the carpet and into the console to the outlet. Then ran the ground wire to a bolt on the floor, you can see the brown wire to it in the photo.
You do not need to splice wire like in the photos above if you use a fuse tap. I also used an extra inline fuse you can see in the photos.
