Default RX 350 Side Moldings

I have the RX 350 (2012) and I put on the door guards (edge of the doors). I was told by a Lexus technician that they would have to be removed before I could put on the door side moldings, even though it seems like there are pictures with both the door edge guards and side moldings! Is he correct? Appreciate any help! Thanks in advance.

I don't see why u would have to take those off. It's like they get in the way.

Check this thread:

Looking at billy44bo's pictures you may have to trim around the door guards when you install the molding.

Welcome to CL, Lellen. Here are the instructions for installation.

It looks like the molding is close to the front door edges so it may need to be removed. A few people here have installed theirs. Possible they can confirm how much of a gap there is from the molding to the door edge. Otherwise I'd suggest asking them to install the molding slightly forward to avoid it.

You can just move the front molding forward a few millimeters. You wont be able to tell at all.

I contacted Sewell with this question, but have yet to receive a reply, so I decided to posit it here.

Does anyone know if I can get molding and edge guards for the 3rd gen RX for the discontinued Black Sapphire Pearl color? Its no longer avail. on the Sewell site.

Hal, contact Darrel at Sewell, 888-909-6633. He'll get back to you.

What is the color code? They dont list my color Starlight Mica but it is 217 and that is the same as the Starglazer Black. It may be that the color was renamed.

Your color code is 8u0. It was a '10 color so I am sure they can order them.

Thanks for the quick replies. I guess in this cyber age, I can get lazy and not pick up the phone. I'll call Sewell's and see if they can order the moldings.

I haven't bee able to call yet, but got an email response that Lexus didn't release Black Sapphire Pearl bod side moldings. I will call to double check, but if this is the case, are there any high quality aftermarket alternatives to the Lexus units?
