Default Nav Software Update 2013 to a 2010

I was at the Dealer today posing this question, 'Can the updated Nav software/ App Suite of the 2013 RX be downloaded into a 2010 RX?'. They have a Lexus rep coming in a couple weeks and they said they would ask. I just want to know if it's possible, I'm sure Lexus would charge for it, but it would be nice to have. Anyone else with info on this, I would appreciate the input. They said May for the 2013 RX.

I highly doubt it. I am sure the app suite requires some more hardware and not just software

If Im wrong, I will be first in line to get it though

I heard no

I am surprised and so was the sales guy bc Lexus could make so much money on the upgrade and monthly fees.

For example, I will now renew my service for mines bc IMO it isn't worth it, but I would have for the one that 2013 have.

Loss $$$$ for lexus.

Default Update

Is there that much difference from a 2010 to a 2013?

I know my 2007 Nav update changed some computer software. It got rid of the yes button on start up.

New front bumper design and some minor changes in the interior.

The new nav system can play pandora, and order book restyarant reservations etc using your cell phone. Note: It is a paid service.

I read in some of the Lexus materials the answer is no* (see below). The net is, you can't "upgrade" the new Enform "App Suite" functionality like OpenTable/Bing/Movietickets/Yelp/Pandora etc onto a non-2013 model that wasn't enabled for this in the first place. I don't know if there are technical or marketing reasons for that, but I left with the impression Lexus created this new Enform "App Suite" platform that allows them to add more proprietary Enform apps in the future. It's similar to what has been on some of the Toyota models for a while now, but is Lexus' own implementation (e.g. the iOS Enform app that ties to the vehicle is unique to Lexus and there is a separate one for Toyota).

You of course can update the Nav map info itself if that's what you're interested in doing -- we've covered that here in a couple of threads over the past few months. Perhaps you could pull out and "replace" the whole Nav/whatever in your 2010 with the 2013 version to gain the incremental Enform capabilities, but personally I wouldn't even go there cost-wise for such minor incremental benefits -- better and simpler to just get a new 2013!

*Details on Lexus Enform are here http://www.lexus.com/enform/. One of the FAQs:
"Will all Lexus models offer the Lexus Enform App Suite and services?
The Lexus Enform App Suite will be offered on select 2013 and newer Lexus models. Vehicles with an existing Lexus Enform system will not be able to upgrade to the Lexus Enform App Suite."

Guess MEP will have to upgrade the RX instead

Thanks for the info, BertL. But with everything else, we'll have to wait and see.

Yes, the hand controller is like the one in the new GS.

Guess I'll wait till '16 when they do the RX completely over. I don't want to spend $15k to look at the same dash, after all that is what an owner looks at most.

I would love to know why Lexus didn't make it so it can upgrade?

They would have made a load of $$$$ with people getting upgrades and paying the enform 2 monthly service.

Nobody is going to rip out their existing nav and get a new 1 for enform 2.

But there might have been many of people willing to pay $$$ to upgrade their enform 1 to enform 2.

Seems kind of silly to me.
