Default 2011 RX Noises

I feel my motor noise at idle and mild acceleration is very loud for luxury car.
Rx350 2011. From inside exhaust noise and road/tire wind noise also seem a bit too much. On hwy very smooth and quieter.
Was told 2010 was quieter cause of ceramic part in intqake system and better tuned exhaust for performance. Bs?
How is your experience with this?

To whomever can give me some insight.

I am with you ..Guy! I waited for years for the CT to arrive, then I when I test drove it I found the road noise to be too distracting. Then, I bought the HS which really did not give me much sound insulation inside the cabin either. After a few months with the car, it got totalled when a lady, texting while driving t-boned me while I was making a left turn.
I was lucky I didn't get hurt really bad and I thought I real lucky that I get to replace it sooner because of the road noise. Well, I was happy to get an RX CPO for a few weeks that is. I just can't believe LEXUS has the audacity to charge $50k+ on such vehicle and insult us with a vehicle that is so watered down in terms of quality in general and
is so lacking in classy feel in particular.

The experience I have with Toyota or Honda is the same. More than twenty years ago, these two companies put out vehicles that were very well insulated, I mean the foams below the carpet were thick and heavy! Then they keep reducing the padding, today all of them, including Lexus use materials that are so ineffective I feel like I was scammed! Do you have to spend $80+ grand to have a quiet vehicle nowadays? Do we have to give these car companies a huge profit margin? I say we should file a complaint for false advertisement (that the RX is a quiet vehicle).

I have to agree with Walleye that the exhaust note at idle and mild acceleration could be quieter. I believe Lexus did this on purpose to make it sound sportier, I'd rather have quiet.

As far as the quality of the materials of the interior they are better than a lot of other manufacturers. I went to the car show this year and so many of the interiors just felt cheap. I personally don't think the RX feels cheap.

Thank you for the answer/support.
I did not make clear in first complaint that new ceramic intake and tuned exhaust is in the new 2011 not the 2010 and that is what they said made 2011 noisier.

Also, any one know why no dual exhaust like cool looking acura, other lexus models, bmw etc?
I would take them just for the looks!
I like interiors, plenty quality for me.

Only managing to ave 16.5 mpg city by the way.

But i like it much better than acura mdx 2001 i traded in. That drove like a truck by comparison. But i think it was quieter(only 240 horse)

2012's have a bit more insulation and are quieter.

Perhaps one of the mods can edit this topic so it has a subject line that is relevant to the topic?

Personally the slight engine/exhaust noise doesn't bother me a bit. I even kind of like it. I'm just happy that the highway noise level is very good.
I do wonder why no dual exhaust such as what's on my Infinity. Isn't dual exhaust somewhat a performance booster? Or maybe it makes no difference in today's highly tuned vehicles.

Other than adding another muffler to replace at some point and the additional performance sound/appearance the "dual" exhaust adds minimal in terms of RWHP without being combined with other naturally aspirated modeifications. Many are not really a true dual exhaust but a single pipe split after the catalytic converter or resonator depending on the model.

Try putting some sound deadening material like Dynamat on the trunk floor above where the muffler is. One thing I noticed between my '11 and the '12 I traded it for was additional "goop" applied by the factory in that area, and it is quieter.

dynomat makes a huge difference in sound deadening. It is a rubberized material that not only slows down vibrations but also adds a little mass in the affected area.

I used some in my kids Echo to drastically reduce the sound of rain water in the rear wheel wells.

I dynamatted the entire interior of my RX and it did nothing for the exhaust note. It did get rid of some of the tire pinging when going over expansion joints. My ML sound system took a big step up. Lot's of bass response now and the sound is awesome.

Alexb, I am curious as to where you saw the extra 'goop' on your RX. Placement is everything.

I'd rather have a single catalytic converter then split from there. Replacing a catalytic is hella expensive.
