Default 2011 RX350 Vehicle Speed Sensor Replacement

I searched for similar threads but couldn't find anything, so apologies if there's already a thread. I have a 2011 RX 350 that locked up on the road twice yesterday, so my daughter (who was driving) had her Grandpa's mechanic come tow the car to his garage. He said it's the vehicle speed sensor that's bad and ballparked the part at $600 and the labor at around $2k. The mechanic said it's connected to the transmission, so the high labor cost was due to how long it would take to reach the sensor and replace it. Does this sound correct? Does anyone have the steps or process on how this is replaced? TIA for your help!

It sounds like they mean the transmission speed sensor vs the wheel speed sensor which is very easy to replace and does not cause those symptoms.
Do you have the P0500 code? Does the speedometer still work? How many miles are on it? Has the transmission fluid ever been changed?

Run away from those crooks and take it to another shop. That is way too expensive. You also need a second opinion that that is what you really need to replace.

Lexus RX350 Vehicle Speed Sensor Replacement Cost
The average cost for a Lexus RX350 Vehicle Speed Sensor Replacement is between $262 and $283.

They also lied about the part cost. It is under $200. Or $131 online https://parts.lexus.com/p/Lexus__RX-...941348010.html

It is located on top of the transmission and under the air filter box. It is not that hard to get to. They either don't know what they are doing or are taking advantage of you.

This video is of a Toyota Sienna which has the same engine and transmission and speed sensor as the RX350.
