Why are so many people treating the onboard computer calc's as infallible when simply measuring the amount of fuel that went in and the mileage travelled is something that a kid in Grade-4 could do and it is an actual representation of... The amount of miles travelled, divided by the quantity of fuel consumed!??!!

When I first got my RX, I did exactly that, and logged the miles traveled divided by the fuel consumed for a "real" calculation. In over 6 months doing that, my calculated mileage was never once off from the computer by more than 0.1 mpg, so I stopped the manual calculation.

Default Gas mileage

i recently bought a 2013 rx350. What is the best gas mileage I should expect for highway driving? Locally it sometimes is 15. I am getting around 22 mpg on the highway

Default 8164 mile trip to Key West

My wife and I have returned from our epic trip to Key West in our 2011 RX350. The car was fully loaded with stuff, ( I brought a bag).
Most of the way we were on the Interstate highways at 70 to 75 mph. In WY and MT it was 80mph.
Mostly used quality premium fuel, 91 - 93 octane, with maybe 5 tanks of Plus, 89 octane.
So 8164 miles divided by 379.7 gallons = 21.5 mpg. We got the best mileage in the flat lands from Texas through Florida - 23 to 24 mpg.
When we got back home the odometer read 56500 miles.
Back to the snow and rain for us,
George

I just drove to Florida and back (2105 miles) in my 2013 AWD RX 350. I averaged 22.2 MPG with 95% of my driving on Interstate.

I have had my 2013 RX 350 for almost four years now. Your local mileage will likely vary from around 15.0 to up to 18.5, because there are so many variables. However, on the interstates, doing between 65 and 75 MPH, you can expect around 22.5 to 23.5 on average. Premium fuel is not needed, or will unlikely increase those numbers.

i would agree with your assessment except for the 15-18 mpg unless your from a warmer climate than me. In Buffalo my low end in winter temps-- not driving in snow--'was a nightmare of 11-12 local driving.

I have never experienced numbers that low. My driving is in Florida, and sometimes North Carolina, but the results are similar. I will say that there have been at least two instances where we got unusually low numbers (~14 local, 21 highway). In both cases I attributed the variance to gasoline quality from a big box store. Bad gas can be a big mileage killer. That being said, local driving conditions, and technique can cause a wide variance. Being heavy on the gas leaving a full stop might be the biggest culprit of all. But, a large number of stops, high idle time, and being heavy on the gas, and heavy on the brakes, will have a significant affect on the mileage. Not sure of the effect of cold verses warm weather gas formulas.

Those low numbers are what prompted me to trade that car in for the RX450h. The Hybrid is as advertised. Great mpg summer and winter. Though winter numbers are about 15 percent lower. I also use Sunoco gasoline. I have had five hybrids. I learned a long time ago to go easy on the pedal. I tried everything with that 2013 RX to no avail. Dealer several times to check. Never found anything wrong. I just gave up. I pity whoever bought it.

I am in Minneapolis and have not seen numbers such low even though weather is cold. My local driving (mix of local + highway) gives me around 17-18 (Winter). My office is just 3.5 miles from my home and that is what eating into my mpg.

i would have been more than happy with 17-18. Just was not happening. Let me add-- at one point I actually hit a low of 8 mpg. Winter driving. Snow on road. Went to,dealer to no avail.

Doesn't the hybrid version require premium gas? I just filled my tank with regular for $1.89/gal, so 13 city & 22 highway isn't so bad right now.
