Default RX 350 Rain Sensing Wipers?

Hello all!

I just purchased a 2010 RX 350 - It was a Service Loaner and we received an incredible deal on it and are very happy. However, as a Service Loaner the vehicle was not equipped with the Nav system, the turning headlights with special bulbs (sorry I don't remember the technical terms for these options), and lastly the rain sensing wipers. Of all these options, the only one I really will miss, as I have owned several previous Lexus' that have this feature, is the rain sensing wipers.

My question is, can this option be retofitted at a later date?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thank you and Happy Holidays!

Bill K.

dont quote me on this but at first i thought about getting a 2010 rxh without the nav because i was offered a great deal. i thought about swapping headunits in the future and swap in the nav system with the color display. the sales guy said that is not possible because everything is wired and set up internally and just simply swapping our headunits is not possible. i would assume sophisticated vehicles like these do not have easily interchangeable parts. i think everything is built a certain way with all the options from the ground up. i miss the days of swapping car stereos every few months in my honda civic...sigh...

as for the rain sensing wipers that i have now, i think i can live without it. tuning it to a set wipe speed, slow or fast, is good enough for me.

I dont think it can be retrofitted...you would have to get a new windshield too specific to the one that accommodates the sensor

Zig,you may change your mind down the road.
When I drive my Camry and raining,I miss the rain sensing in certain rain conditions.
The rain sensing isn't perfect but I like it.

As to the OP and adding rain sensing wipers.Even if possible, the cost would be ridiculous,IMO.

At least $2,000 for a new windshield
+ Misc wiring/harness
+New Wiper stalk
+Rain sensor

After all said and done if would have been cheaper to just buy the car with the options you wanted from the beginning.

Hey, guys, thanks for the replies. Pretty much what I suspected, since I had asked the salesman about the retrofitting the Nav system when I was at the dealership and he basically said "no" because of the complexity of the system. Sounds like the same goes for the rain sensing wipers. For the deal I got, I can live without them, but IMO I agree with the poster above, I DO miss the days when you could add options later to vehicles.

Again, thanks all!
Happy Holidays!

The rain sensing wipers on my 2008 Is 250 are worthless: they don't wipe when there's rain, and then they go fast when it's only misting. The dealer says they are working "fine." Just got the RX and will have to see what my wife thinnks.

I think they work brilliantly. I had them on my 04 RX and I have them now '11. The great thing on the '11 is that you can adjust the sensitivity right on the stalk.

I like the rain sensing wipers except when they speed up in turns. One word of warning to those who have them and live up north, make sure you turn them off now or every time you leave your car to avoid damaging them.
