Default Irrational thoughts from a new owner...lol

Ok so if anyones gonna understand my insanity, it's here I hope!!!

For me, this was a pretty big brand jump from a chevy before to my new baby and I find myself worried about driving and parking it at some places. Like I have a concert Fri night with 3 other people and my RX would fit everyone comfortably but I worry about someone hitting it, or trying to steal it while we're inside.

Is it just me as a newbie to the luxury car world? Am I ridiculous!? (yeah I kow I am! lol) Does it wear off eventually? I just have to treat it like any other car I would drive around normally right?

Just had to get it out there and see if I'm all alone on my crazy bus here... hehehe

i dont think it takes a luxury car to have that mentality. Its the whole idea of owning a new car. It's new and you baby it but it will wear off eventually. I bought a new Honda Civic years ago and i was paranoid to park it on the streets for a few hours. Maybe if it was a used car then that mentality wont be as strong. You have a new car and you want to make sure it stays brand new.

I feel the same way. Always looking for an out-of-the-way place to park - away from the maddening crowd. Good exercise as well to walk a little bit. I just hit 1700 miles and I think the newness feeling with be with me for a while.

Install a set of body side mouldings to protect the paint from door dings. Even when you park at the very back of the lot there is always some idiot that will park right beside you when ther are 200 empty spots around you???? I will be ordering the body side mouldings from Sewell next month just in case. I feel as you do........I want to keep that new look for as long as possible.

Jen, I feel the same here since I got my first RX back in '98. I park way out in left field or find that sweet spot in the lot - extra wide, end of line, etc. I'll sooner leave than park somewhere I don't like. LoJack installed in all of them (last two with early warning notification) just in case. My heart still skips a few beats if anyone gets too close. It's the price to pay for having a Lexus.

Ain't that the truth. Also stay away from parking in slots that are on an incline. Whoever's car is parked on the higher ground will let their door swing open and ding you. I had some out-of-state jackass ding my IS300 that way. Eventually the newness will wear off but until then stay vigil

Its human nature to protect something so precious...or something that cost 50K. lol. I find myself doing the same thing to my new cars, but it begins to wear off, and after you get that first scratch or door ding, the rest come easier.

I have never had a problem with the RX, and I attribute it to being a very understated vehicle. Its not flashy, and doesnt draw attention to itself. Therefore, I dont feel as paranoid as I do with my C.

I also believe in parking far away, preferably a corner spot, but sometimes, I think the more cautious you are, the more bad things that happen. Just try to let things flow naturally, and hopefully nothing bad will happen. The feeling wears off after a year or two (but hasnt on my C after 2 years, haha)

Agreed.
I've had my 450 for a year. Got first door ding last week, in the front passenger fender. No molding would have prevented that.
Ding insurance took care of it.

Thanks for all the replies! It's nice to see I'm not totally batty...hehehe I "cared" before with my last new car, but with this it's definitely kicked up a few notches! Really just loving the car so much, I want her to stay as new and pretty looking as I can.

LOL My friends kid started calling the car Lexi, and as unoriginal as that is, it's kinda stuck so its a girl! hehehe
