Default headlight sensitivity setting

Hi all, we have a 10 RX non-NAV AWD. We can adjust the light sensitivity at which the auto headlights come on (as with NAV systems). Our problem is which direction is defined as less sensitive?, (meaning we want it to be really dark, before the auto headlights kick on.) On the nonNAV display it's either plus or minus, so we're not sure which direction to go. Logically, one would think putting it in the negative direction would mean darker, before the lights kick in. However, we've all been befuddled by what Lexus engineers were thinking with this or that, so hopefully someone would know. Can't say we really trust the dealer either. Didn't really want to experiment either....tried that this AM in the garage and there seemed to be no difference. Any help appreciated. Whew! hope you all understood that.

It is not a sensitity setting. It is a timer setting, as in, when detecting a dark space, how long it will keep the headlights off until turning them on automatically. The plus adds more time and the minus takes less time.

This option is more for going in to tunnels. On many european cars, the lights come on instantly when entiring a dark space, which I find to be a good thing. Many times on the RX, I am towards the end of the tunnel before the lights switch on, which is useless.

Thanks for clarifying. Had a totally different concept (since the manual says "light sensor sensitivity" -2 to +2 had no idea what that meant.)..

Somebody posted this once before and I kept it. It explains the LPS better than anything I have seen.

OK, now that implies that it really does work by adjusting how much ambient light affects the switching of the headlights. The problem with nonNAV setups is that it just has - or +, nothing that says lighter or darker as with the NAV menu. So how would one interpret + or - in relation to light or dark? I hate cryptic engineers. I didn't purchase the Lexus decoder ring...

With the nav it is the same + or - it does not say lighter or darker, that is why I liked this because it explains it better. I think it does.
