I am new to this forum as I am close to purchasing a 2010 RX350. My question is does anyone know if the RX350 support unicode characters on song titles / artists via the USB interface?
I don't think so; if the iPod won't display international characters, for sure the RX's display will not. In fact, I'm positive because my wife's Thai characters embedded in her music don't show up on either the iPod or the screen...
thanks for the information. its a shame to hear that US spec cars don't support unicode, I can imagine this being a very easy fix as its just a matter of picking a system font that supports unicode.
nope, us spec cars don't support unicode as far as i know
johnny, but ipod should be able to support at least some unicode setup? all my ipod/iphone display chinese and japanese characters perfectly
Yes, but Thailand's archaic alphabet is still not supported by Apple - which has a lot of iPod users fuming there. With the implementation of the Hanyu Pinyin romanized system introduced by Mao back in 1958, the Chinese character driven alphabet leaped forward in acceptance, making it much easier to adapt to the digital world. Ironically, like Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese) Thai is also a tonal language, but it has fallen behind in many respects.
You can't keep 1.3B people back when they want to move forward...

Lexus, like most cars is market driven. In Bangkok, the menus use Thai or English menus. Likewise in Hong Kong, they are either Chinese or English, the same in other regions. But it ends there; the control buttons are predominently in English. The only exception I believe is in Japan, and as you might expect the control stacks there are available in either Katakana or English.
