Default MDX vs. RX

besides styling, what are some reasons you guys choose the RX over the MDX?

I bought a MDX over an RX but liked both. This is what it came down to:

My wife choose the MDX over the Lexus RX for the following reasons:

1. 3rd row seat
2. More room behind 2nd seat
3. More room for passengers in 2nd seat
4. Rear AC (I live in AZ)
5. Cheaper when similarly equipped.

What She liked about the Lexus RX over the MDX:

1. More Luxurious interior
2. Better Gas Milage
3. Looks better (not to sure I agree)
4. Keyless ignition
5. Dealer

As a bonus, the MDX has a great stereo in the Tech Package (we already had quite a few DVD-Audio CD's). Getting the Mark Levinson stereo on the RX caused the RX to get pricey.

1. Lexus reputation.
2. No need for a third row and it takes up cargo space when not in use. I needed cargo space.
3. At the time I was looking the MDX did not have ventilated seats. Big deal breaker, I live in AZ
4. Did not like the look of the interior.
5. Optioned out it was the same price.
6. Gas milage.
7. All the luxury features.
8. The nav controller is terrific.

The more I drive this car, the more I like it.

Wife picked the RX over the MDX (it's her car!) but I agreed 100%. The MDX felt very trucky. Also felt much larger.

We also liked the more 'luxury' feel of the RX over the 'sportier' feel of the MDX.

To us they felt like they were in different categories.

Others will feel differently to be sure - those were just our own feelings. YMMV

Once I saw that shield, I walked out of the door. Didn't look at anything else.

lol, the shield and somewhat not as luxurious feel is the only negative for us.

price is cheaper for us comparably equipped. i was quoted $46,800 for the RX with comfort, navi, and rear entertainment.

the mdx with the tech package and rear entertainment is $46,000, includes heated rear seats and 3rd row seats. but i really like the mdx with the "advance" package but pushes the price to almost $52,000.

the other possible negative is that i read somewhere that the acura's awd outperforms the rx's awd... anyone have any problems with it? (as in being stuck in the snow?)

malujerry, I have yet to be stuck in the snow in any of my RXs. That video with the Acura, RX and Audi was a joke. I have been up more than my fair share of snow covered hills, not necessarily by choice. Bottom line, it got me where I needed to go. My 450h didn't slip once going up a hill during last Thursday's storm. And it was much longer than the one in the video.

I remember back in '98 Acura had the only other luxury SUV out there. I looked at it back then but went with the RX. Couldn't be happier.

Except the MDX's facade, I didn't choose it 'cause...

1. 5 speed tranny (2009)
2. built-quality
3. no push-button to start

I agree...
1. MDX SH-AWD is far superior than RX10's Active Torque Control AWD.
2. may have more stuff with the less total price

I had been a long time Lexus owner but just purchased the 2010 MDX.

I will be trading at the end of the year for the 450h

While I like the MDX it still is lacking in comparison to the Lexus. Number one complaint is the rear suspension noise.

I am looking forward to the return to Lexus and will be hanging around here!

the tranny is now a 6-speed, with paddle shift on one of the packages. but the no-push start does bother me also. i test drove a fully load kia sorrento for $33,000 which had push start. wtf acura!

my father in law has an 05 mdx, neither that nor the new one i test drove made noises i really noticed. the lexus was definitely smoother though. i was hoping for left-over rebates on either model, but according to emunds as of today, none on either one. acura even took away the 1.9% financing. so i'll continue researching...

I found the interior of the MDX to be cheap. I was not impressed with the fit and finish. The MDX was also noisy, even more than the RX. Also the sales person at Leith Acura dealership spent more time telling me what services they don't offer, instead of what they do offer, when compared to the Lexus dealership. It was not a friendly enviroment.
The only thing I can say in favor of the MDX is I believe the all wheel drive system is more advanced than the one in our RX.

Forget abt the MDX, have you guys seen the second generation 2011 Porsche Cayenne due out in summer. If I had the $$ I would sell my 10RX350 and get that.

I considered the Cayenne when I bought my LS. The Cayenne is a great machine! I had to go for the Lexus over the Cayenne and the X5 because my back issues could not take the stiff ride. The X5 didn't ride good and was not comfortable even sitting still. If not for the stiff ride I would have loved the Cayenne; it certainly has a superior paint job than our RX or LS.

The 2011 Cayenne is why I am waiting until late this year before I make my choice. I drove a 2010 Cayenne S for over a month and the performance and handling was fantastic. The 2011 is very interesting yet I am a little scared about jumping in on the 2011 till I see how it fairs with public for a while.
