Second generations VS. Third Generation

No comments about driving (its a car after all) -- road handling, dynamics, steering feel, brakes, cornering, stability, push button start, keyless entry.
While I have a couple of things I dislike (tires, disfunctioning middle console, shifter still not in the right place), I am glad Lexus finally decided that not everyone wants to drive a high-quality couch, but rather a good balance of luxury, sport, and utility. So, they rushed in abit with 2010, sure some cost-cutting went in, to keep the price the same, and to add all the technical gadgets. When it was time to replace my 05 Acura MDX, I did not even consider RX because I found 1st and 2nd gen RXs not appealing to my driving style. I put it on my 'test-drive' list, together with Q5, ML, and MDX, simply because all dealerships were within a mile from each other.
What can I say, RX wowed me the most, although I was almost set on making it 3-in-a-row with Acura (I previously drove 01 MDX). If Q5 was as big as RX or MDX, maybe I would have chosen it.

What if they just added all the above suggestions and made the MSRP the same, or maybe a few hundred higher. I dont think it would have made a difference in sales, and it sure would have stopped this thread from being created. It is then that they could have made the best all around RX since 1999.
How much would backlighting would have cost? a few dollars on their part?
