just a thought--I think in general higher temp will allow for higher mileage. AZ tends to have higher temps. Notwithstanding use of AC..... but say in Iowa--winter mileage wil be less than summer mileage.

or--When I drove from Phoenix to Flagstaff--thats "uphill" by 6000 feet. When I drive back I always get better mileage.

Unquestionably, very cold weather "kills" gas mileage for any car (hybrid or non hybrid). It seems to me that the optimum outside temperatures for best gas mileage are between 70 and 80 degrees. If it gets very hot, one obviously needs to turn on the AC and this cuts down on fuel efficiency. The hotter it is the harder the compressor has to work and gas mileage goes down accordingly.

No, I've checked my mileage multiple times over the past 3 years, and I get excellent mileage. I've even asked my service advisor and he said he's had other people tell him that they've driven cross country and averaged 30-31 mpg. If that's the case, why pay more for a hybrid? But if you're not experiencing the same, I'm not sure I want to trade mine in for a different vehicle :-)
