Default 2010 RX alarm question

Does anyone know if the glass-breakage sensor must be factory installed, or can the dealer install it? I wonder if anyone on this forum has it in their RX?

Thanks

I was told all options such as remote start, 19" tires, HUD, and I assume GBS are all factory installed right now.

Although I grabbed a 2010 RX350 accessories brochure which lists roof rack options, mats, AND the glass breakage sensor...so good question....

I had asked my sales person who did not know about the sensor, and was going to check. From what I just now read on the Lexus site...it's factory installed. It's too late for me now as I've got a new RX coming in next week. It seems they're not taking "special orders" anyway.

Thanks

Did you get the firm answer yet?

Based on ppl's answers here and the detailed sheet I recieved from one of the dealers, it seems the sensor and remote start can be installed by the dealers themselves.

Dunno. It's still the mystery, some dealers keep saying it's the factory installed. Maybe they don't want to install these and like to keep you away from other dealers, so they lie to us...

I pick up my new 2010 tomorrow and will ask the service manager when I meet him about the sensor. Seems to me it could be as easy as a plug-in unit.

According to the Window sticker/vehicle inquiry report that I recieved on our RX, which should be in Monday, The following accessories are to be installed at the port:
V2 - glass breakage sensor
WL - wheel locks
V4 - remote start
C1 - cargo mat
GN - cargo net

If they can install it at the port, the dealer should be able to install it.

They are factory installed. We have been shopping around for a car that has the glass breakage and remote start feature. If installed at the dealer, the will charge you twice the factory cost if not more unless you can negotiate it down. Most of the dealer stock right now do not have these features but there are cars that definitely do.

Out of 3 dealers I've visited so far, there is only one dealer having the RX with these 2 features intalled...

I'd suggest to keep looking for it.

As luck would have it, when I picked my new car up yesterday all the service desk people were at a meeting. The stand-in's knew nothing about the sensor. The next time I go back to the dealer I'll inquire about it, unless I read about it on the forum first.

it's good to know that lexus finally has a glass sensor for the factory alarm! long overdue imho, and should be an option for all models with factory alarms.

I agree, this option is key considering that it is a hatch back and there is no trunk.

When I ordered my 450h I was given the option for this but turned it down after I saw what had to be done AT PORT for it to be installed. Here is a picture of the parts that have to be removed to installed the glass sensor.

I had the Lexus remote start installed by the dealer before I took delivery of my 2010 RX350. It was negotiated as part of the deal, so no additional installation cost was incurred...just paid the window sticker price for a new RX350 remote start option.
