Default Headlights flickering

Hi guys

Since yesterday my headlights are both moving up and down. I have the full led with AFS.
Any idea what might be the reason? Headlight swivel ECU or Ballast control HID unit? Whatever it is it affects both headlights concurrently.
AFS on or off makes no difference. AFS check system appears occasionally.

Have you read the OBDII codes? That may point you in the right direction.

No haven't done that yet. Check AFS system message doesn't appear all the time. I suspect is the Headlamp swivel control unit but I wanted to see if it has happened to anyone else.

There are vehicle level sensors underneath the RX. [Sorry I don't have pictures to show].

They sense the angle of the vehicel with respect to level [paralle to ground] and they send signal to the computer. The computer checks the front and th back sensor to determine the angle of the body and then sends controlling signal to the motors for headlamp.

My first suspicion is that one of the level sensor is acting up. Since it is exposed to the elements, it is most likely getting stuck [not smooth].

I would suggest get the specs and see if the sensor is giving the right signal as you move it. If you blindly replace it then you are throwing parts.

Note: Side to side is a steering based thing and based on your description that is not the problem [AFS if equipped]
Make sure we are not talking about flickering due to intensity [brilliance] change as that is electrical in nature [alternator]
The above is strictly headlamp moving the bright spot up and down [auto leveling].

Yes is not flickering, the post title was wrong. It is only moving up and down, so related the the leveling system. It seems that RX 3rd gen has 4 levelling sensors, two in the front and another two in the rear.
My question is, would these sensors affect the headlamps move, even when the car is standstill (like in my case)?

I would think there are only 2 sensors - 1 back, 1 front, for cost reasons, but don't really know. I would also think the system default if it stops receiving signals from any sensor is to point lights straight as a safety measure, again, don't know. But I do know you really should get the codes. Good luck with the repair!

There are 2 front sensors, one for each headlight and one rear sensor attached to the suspension. The first thread link has a photo of the rear sensor at post 34. The rest of the links are other threads discussing the leveling sensors front and rear and contain links to even more threads!

Friday I will go for service so I will have the levelling sensors checked. However the issue seems to have stopped since Saturday after a long trip I did.
I use the car for short city trips and during Christmas holiday I didn't use it at all for a couple of weeks.
Could this issue be related to 12V battery somehow?

The problem could be the rear or front sensors or motor became a bit corroded or otherwise sticky due to lack of use. Once it was driven and the system engaged more frequently, the movement may have dislodged the corrosion-sticky issue for a while. Maybe try spray lubricant (not WD-40) on the exposed parts of the rear suspension leveling sensor as I bet that is the most likely area to have issues.

A proper lubricant for that application is white lithium grease.
