Default Passenger side CV axle

I spent the past 5 hours trying to get this out....tried pry bar, hammering with a chisel, pb blaster soak, slide hammering tool from autozone....still won't budge...is there a special trick?

is the carrier bearing pressed into the bracket/holder? I'm tempted to cut/sawzall the axle at this point...aaaargh

Try an M10x1.25 bolt, one longer than the original that goes into the bottom of the carrier bearing bracket* sometimes this moves the bearing enough to make it free. If all else fails then cut the axle that's what I do.

*make sure the rubber plug is removed first.

edit - bearing is not pressed in meaning friction fit, it slides into the bore easily assuming the bearing and bracket are not rusty.

I assume the wheel side is detached and floating. Vehicle balanced and chocked, put the shifter in "N".

If yes then try rotating the axle in increments of 10 degrees and prying the shaft out. The clip inside which is fighting you rotates to a point where the shaft should come out with ease.

Salim
During installation it helps if the clip crown is on the top.

yes, this is how I was able to swap out the CV axle on the driver's side....but the passenger side is trickier because of the carrier bearing...thank you

Did you remove the c-clip? won't come out if that is in. And remove screw under bearing holder if there is one in there. for things like this, I soak and wait, and at some point break out a propane torch to heat up surrounding metal. is it possible to insert the axle back into the wheel bearing, put the axle nut back on, and then push against the nut with something that turns and pulls it out?

That's what I do! If I can't get the axle out after a few minutes using the usual methods out comes the angle grinder. Your bracket/mount looks good very little rust now imagine a salt belt car it can take drastic amounts of force to get the bearing out.

I am a little late to the party but I would have used a 10lb slide hammer and a hook or puller attachment to hammer it out. The 10lb slide puller method has worked for me on other seized axles over the years.

The 5lb slide hammer kit from Autozone is too small or lightweight to handle the heavy duty jobs(stuck wheel bearings, axles, etc). I tried the 5lb slide hammer on jobs in the past and it did nothing. A 10lb slide hammer break the part loose every time.

congrats on the removal. how long did it take to saw zaw thru that? A man has to be pretty motivated to start saw zawing under a car in tight quarters, must have been angry!! mine likes to kick back on me, gets scary sometimes.

Kick back is a major concern wear heavy gloves and ideally a full face shield or at least something like this
Amazon Amazon

Eye protection without a gasket is no good hot metal particles can still get in your eyes if this happens they will burn into your cornea and rust you'll be at the doctor getting them scraped off.

lol…yes first time saw zawing on a car! Took about 15 minutes and had to swap out a new blade…after cutting thru the axle, started hammering away but the bearing still wouldn’t budge…started to worry about how to get the car out and drop off with a mechanic…but I noticed the spacing between the bracket/holder and axle cup had widened a bit so got back to hammering and eventually slid out…

ya, you won't want to bring the car to a mechanic with a only half an axle stuck in there, their charges double after seeing that, not to mention the towing charge! not surprised you needed to change blades, that is some pretty thick metal. now we all know what is inside the Toyota axle !
