I am having problems with the power liftgate. The original motor worked intermittently. After reading online I replaced the struts. Door moves freely with no grinding at all. If you lift the door up about a foot it will rise all the way to the top on its own. After replacing the struts it was the same. 1 long beep and then nothing. I replaced the motor with a new one tried it again and it did the same thing. Then I opened it and closed it several times and it worked. When I tried it again 1/2 hour later it didn,’t work again. I checked the switch in the glovebox and it’s pushed in. I tried disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes and that made no difference. The crush sensors on the sides of the doors look fine. There are no codes or errors showing up on the screen. When it does work it works fine. It goes all the way up and when going down it locks.

 

Weird.

I replaced my old 2010 RX350 lift gate motor with a used motor I got off eBay years ago and it still works to this day. I know the person that drives my old 2010 RX350.

I did not need to do anything special after installing the lift gate motor. I just removed the old motor and then installed the new motor.

 

See these older threads discussing lift gate issues. If they do not help, you probably should check with a couple of local body shops as they repair these all the time as cars get hit in the rear all the time.

I have a similar problem with a 2015 RX350. One day it works fine. Then next day it may start to open and then lock again. I have assumed a poor connection somewhere but until now have reverted to Manual if it is failing and have not tried to repair it.
