Same happened to me on the same side. I drained the stupid fluid and ran it until I found a new piece of glass at the u-pick-it junkyard. eBay sellers are charging an arm and leg for it
Took a little utility knife and slit it near the bottom, then got some towels and soaked it up + compressed air - VERY messy job and the stuff is nasty heads up! After drainning it, I would glue on one of those adhesive glass repair kits from Rockauto. Mine turned completely orange and was really hard to see through. (This was on my 2008 RX350)
They call that mirror fluid "dragon's blood" for good reason. It will eat into anything it leaks out onto. I have seen photos of an interior rear-view mirror fluid dripping onto the top of the dash and absolutely ruining it. So yes, be very careful if you attempt to drain it.
it rained in my area like 4 days in a row. the car was sitting outside. Perhaps that had something to do with it. Also the rats chewed up my distributor wires. I am thinking something's a bit fishy here.
^^ You are missing seeing the discoloration that typically shows up when these mirrors begin to fail. The mirror surface often looks amber or brown in color.
