well; the perils of owning a old vehicle have surfaced yet again. have had the cel and vsc on for about almost 2 weeks now it seems and apparently i cant escape issues! i had a smoke test done today and it revealed that i have leaks in my evap canister, purge valve, and purge valve hose assemblies in the engine bay. my indy shop wants 1600 to fix all of it; one lexus dealer wants 1400 to do it. I just dont know how much more of this kinda stuff my "mental capacity" can handle!!! if its not one thing its another!
It's an old car, a lot would be dead / in a junkyard by now. A little evap issues in 15 years is pretty good I'd say. Those guys are quoting too much money. Pull a used evap canister from the junkyard from a 2004-2013 Highlander or 2007-2009 RX350 (Same part number) or get one new form Toyota, it's actually cheaper OEM for a new one than aftermarket: 77740-0E020 is the part number. Measure hoses and get fuel line or intake line from Napa auto parts. I redid all the hoses in my bay for under 20 bucks.

thing is i dont have the knowledge or tools to do it nor do i have the time as i work most of the time during the week and am busy on the weekends as well. i dont really have a choice but to get it indy shop or dealer done. the reason its so much is because of the labor its not so much the parts.
Swapping the evap canister is really easy, I used a dorman canister....add a new gas cap as well......Also check the vacuum hoses going to the air cleaner as well......

actually not so much as i had it smoke tested and it showed leaks all over the place in the canister the purge valve, and purge valve hose assemblies. I would not call that easy!
It really is easy. Toyota made it simple for us. The canister only takes 30 minutes max to remove from the car. Then, the VSVs and purge can be bench tested. The hoses can be inspected and replaced accordingly.
