Default leather: cleaning and conditioning

Have now owned my rx330 for 6 months and the seats are starting to show some wear.

Any recommendations for cleaning? How often to condition?

Thanks!

I've used the Lexol products (cleaner and conditioner) for a number of years with good success. I've ordered from autosupermart.com where you can get excellent deals if you buy the larger quantities. I've also tried the Imperial Leather conditioner and it's an excellent product as well, but it's more expensive.

You don't want to overdo it on any one application, as more frequent treatments using less product are better. If the leather feels dry and easily absorbs the conditioner, it's time and will prolong its life. Parking the car outside especially if you live in a hot, sunny, dry climate will require more frequent treatments than if the car is usually garaged and you live in cooler, more humid conditions. For the average owner, once every 3 months should be about right.

Huh? The only "Soft Scrub" I'm familiar with is the cleanser product for the kitchen. I wouldn't use that on the exhaust pipe, let alone the leather.

I've heard that cleaning the leather too often isn't good for it. I have black, so I just condition it; once a month... come to think of it, it's overdue!

Hey Guys I'm the one who told this forum about the Soft Scrub trick. WARNING do not use it on a Brand New car. That trick was for only very old leather or is you have a new car and get it stained somehow. The soft scrub trick is to be use maybe evey couple of years when a really deep cleaning is needed.

So please do not do it on a RX330 Unless you get some really tough stain.

Heres is my original post. You will see I used it on my RX300 but only one section of the seat because I got a stain on it.

Using Lexol too, so far good results and supple leather .

I'd only use soft scrub-type cleaners for very bad areas; the Lexol cleaner takes care of my few if I am patient.

I also use a towel on the seats in the warm weather to keep my spooge off the leather !

If you check the auto detailing forum on this topic you'll find several threads that may be helpful. I purchased Connely Hide Food after reading several other posters comments there. I haven't had a chance to try it yet, but I'll post comments when I do. I'm also getting ready to Zaino the exterior before winter.

Here is a list of the products I've tried:

1) Megs Gold Class Cleaner/Conditioner (not very effective cleaner, smells great though)
2) Lexol Cleaner and Lexol Conditioner (good products)
3) Mothers Leather Cleaner (worthless product)
4) Connolly Hide Food (very good conditioner)
5) Leatherique (THE GRAND POOBAH OF LEATHER PRODUCTS!)
6) Woolite diluted 6:1 with water (very good cleaner)
7) Softscrub w/Lemon (NO BLEACH! only used for a tire mark on the back of the rear seats and not to be thought of as a normal procedure as stated above)
8) Megs Gold Class Leather Cleaner Wipes (not bad)

By far and away the best of the products is Leatherique. It's expensive, but it's worth every penny. It not only made the leather look like new, but feel better than new and gives off a natural new leather smell. I plan on using leatherique about every 4 months and use Lexol Cleaner and Conditioner or woolite solution for in betweens. I also keep the Megs Gold Class Leather Cleaner Wipes in the hatch for any emergencies. If you don't have Lexol then get the woolite it really does an excellent job of cleaning the leather and 'Oh by the way, it's recommended by Lexus too'. Connolly hide food is also an excellent conditioner, one of the best actually. I'm actually a little bit of a freak when it comes to keeping my car clean!
