I got my RX330 yesterday, would the ECM update already be there?

My take on the Goodyear's is they are very quiet and smooth, I love 'em at 35-37 psi, jmo;
and I haven't had a mileage break-in period on either car to anywhere near the degree some are reporting. Never under 20 mpg, now 22ish.

What ECM stand for? Is there some bugs in the RX330 that need to be work out? I will take delivery on one pretty soon. What do I need to know? Thanks

ECM = Engine Control Module.

Some RX330 owners have experienced rough shifting of the transmission under certain conditions, and Lexus has come out with a software update that provides smoother shifts. Lexus only recommends that this update be performed on vehicles that exhibit this problem, since apparently once it is performed it is not possible to reverse the procedure (which to me doesn't make sense, but that's what a number of people have been told by their dealers).

Default Anyone with regrets?

Since most dealers (mine included) are saying that the ECM program update, once completed, cannot be undone and changed back to the original programming, I am wanting to check with everyone one last time before I commit our RX330 to this ECM update at 10K miles.

Does anybody regret their decision of having their ECM updated per the Lexus TSB?

Mine was done a couple of months ago. No complaints. I usually only get 16-18 MPG (which is my only concern with my RX), but I'm not directly attributing it to the ECM update. I was getting that before the update. Besides, I have a AWD version, and I do almost entirely city driving with lots of stop and go.

I spoke to my dealer's service tech last week and asked him a few questions. He called me to follow up, after I had taken our RX into their shop to get the update, and the staff on hand could not get the update to take - this was the second time this had happened. The shifting is not real troublesome, so I'm not too concerned, and he assured me that they would get it done if I wanted to try again. Anyway, he mentioned that out of the several hundred they had done, the vast majority said that there was a noticeable improvement, and only a couple of them noticed a change for the worse. Even then, their vehicles were very driveable and nobody asked for a new vehicle because of it. I told him we would closely monitor the situation, and if it gets objectionable we would take it in and have them try again. There is no rush as my only complaint is the shifting seems a little slow, and my wife (the primary driver) says that it was real bad (as in no response, despite really stepping on it) just once that she can recall.

P.S. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this poll is a little flawed, because if you vote "will have it done on my next service" you cannot go back and indicate what effect the update had after it's been done.

That was one of the reasons why I wanted to bring this thread "back to life" and see if anybody now regrets having it done.

Thus far, all the comments I have read within this forum, as well as another forum I sometimes browse, have been either positive or neutral, except for one or two comments regarding a minor concern with fuel economy immediately after the update was performed. I have not seen evidence from anyone who truly regrets this ECM update.

Thanks, JRB, for passing on that information!

No problem, Rob.

One more question, what's the difference between:

"4. YES - No Improvement," and
"5. YES - Can't Tell The Difference"?

If there is no improvement, how can you tell the difference? Maybe 5 should be:

"5. YES - Made It Worse."

I recently had my RX 330 at the dealer getting the "INSULATION BUSHING" installed and the trans cooling lines to stop the whining noise.

I asked the service rep about the ECM update. When I picked up the car, he said it didn't need it.

HOW could they tell if it needed the update?? Just by driving it?? Or date of Manufacture?

thanks
