Default wheel bearing question

I have a 2004, RX30 and have a sound coming from somewhere on the car. it's sounds like the tire area, but I'm not sure. It only makes the noise from 20-35 mph. It starts out like a slow warble and the sound speeds up when I accelerate and then dissipates. Wasn't sure if it's a bearing going bad as there are no codes when I check. My question is, when a bearing is going out on this model, will it throw a code to let me know if a bearing is bad, or going bad?

Thanks for any input!

No sensors on the bearings. On my old RX330, both the rears were shot. It makes a whirling noise and gets louder with speed. Bought two new hub assemblies for easier install, fronts have to be pressed out I recall.

Yep, that's what mine does. I thought it was the front right, but when I opened the window it sounded like the right rear. Maybe I'll just replace all the hubs at once and be done with it. Thanks for the info!

I could understand that for the front bearings, but being that the rear ones are fairly easy, do the other rear when needed.......

Hi Lexuswiz, can I ask at what mileage your rear wheel bearings went out?

I'm at 155k on 2004 RX330, Thank You

Right at 90K in 2018, really was the drivers side rear that was making the noise but brought peace of mind to do both. LOTS OF RUST, hot mess to RNR.

I wonder if mine have already been replaced, however the hubs look original on front and back so Im not sure and I got the car near 120k miles.
Is it normal for the bearings to fail below 100k miles or does the weather play a factor here on how many miles before they fail?

Very hard to say, out of the 30 Toyotas and Lexus I've maintained for friends and family, only two needed rear bearings in their lifetime, my former RX being of them a 2009 Venza being the other. Weather can play a huge factor but also quality control of the part itself from factory.

I do say following this subforum, bearings are common for this gen RX but won't say it's bad enough to warrant a recall.
