Got the code P0328 today in the morning... looks like I need to replace bank 1 sensor. Can anyone give me tips or instructions and location on this sensor. Would be much appreciated!
On the 3.5L engine, the 2 knock sensors are located under the intake manifold. See item K2 in the locator pic below. I don't know how similar the 3.3L engine is.
If the engine is not running properly, the knock sensor is merely doing its job of reporting that and does not need to be replaced. If you have other code indicating engine problems, fix the problems indicated by those codes and the knock sensor code P0328 will most likely go away.
Since the knock sensors are under the intake manifold, replacing them will be a somewhat similar task to replacing the spark plugs, which is a challenging job.

thanks for the reply! Very helpful, but that morning i scanned it and it was only the P0328 code that was there. So do you suggest I run it to see if others come up? Let me know what you think. Thanks! Just don’t want to ruin this reliable beast! Never had issues until now. Nearing 100K miles so I guess I’m not surprised something comes up now.

Reset the code and drive the car for a day or two and see if the code comes back.
I'm not sure about toyotas, but if you have a knock sensor code, the ECU may retard the engine timing, which will reduce the engine's performance to reduce/prevent any possible harm. Retarding the timing is not in itself harmful.

Yeah engine starts just fine no problem. I guess I’ll have to replace that sensor. I’ll reset and go on from there and see if it comes back with just that code or others along with it and I’ll see. Thanks for your help!
I had my mechanic replace my knock sensor last year. He is VERY thorough and has been servicing my vehicle for years. The following is what he replaced since he had the engine apart but you don't have to:
This is alot but since the engine was open and all these part are connected and help with the functioning of the Knock Senor, it saved me money. My RX has 176000 mile on it so he also flushed the radiator. Like I stated earlier, you don't necessarily need to replace all that but he did.
i read knock sensors do not usually go 'bad' but more likely the wiring harness as it can get brittle over time (get denso or equivalent as the wires are suppose to be shielded to reduce interference)
