Default Help me choose an RX

I’ve saved some cash, and I plan on buying one of these...

CHOICE 1:
https://www.tomwoodlexus.com/used/LE...d647ba1c66.htm

Love the colors. Black on black. No Nav System. Bland wheels.

CHOICE 2:
https://www.tomwoodlexus.com/used/LE...d676c77c93.htm

White is nice. Interior will get dirty with kids. Better wheels. Nav system.

shrug? Am I missing anything? Is the Nav system that great? I’ve never owned a Lexus. I’m upgrading from an 02 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a blown engine.

I'd pass on both of those.....If the 2nd one was a silver, breakwater blue, Flint mica or black which would get a different interior color. I'd be looking at ones w/ nav as that'd get you upgrades w/ that package. Have look at '07-'09's. I'd also recommend to get the metal oil cooler lines. I'd also make sure the motor hasn't been started so you can hear it when cold. It took me awhile to find the one we have. I looked online for ones in one area, like the s/w w/ in 40 miles or so & looked at 10-12 & then the next day I'd look at ones in the n/w, ect. Jump on carfax to give you idea of service records....Of course like any vehicle w/ no records, you'll want to swap out the trans fluid, rear diff & transfer case oil.

The 2 cars are pretty close in equipment and miles. So personal preference will play a big part. The black one has 20K fewer miles but the white one has navigation.

I don't have a very high opinion of the Lexus navigation system, so I would pass on that car.

Is navigation worth it? No. But are HIDs and a backup camera worth it? Absolutely

Id have to say the second one would be my choice. Just make sure any recalls, etc and proper maintenance has been performed .

I’m leaning towards the white one myself. I can always get a set of weather tech liners

The white one has been hit not once but twice....To me not replacing the rotors vs turning the rotors on this weight of vehicle, is not good. Looks like the major work done is a alternator. To me looking at many rx's for a few months late last year, I'd pass.

It’s been hit twice, once when it was nearly new, and the other more than a few years ago, I doubt either was major and let’s be honest, Smart money takes the car that has been only dealer maintained, over a car with a no accident Carfax, which doesn’t even guarantee the car hasn’t been hit, and service history that isn’t as well recorded. Think about the kind of person who brings their car to the dealer to get serviced, especially an older one like this.

Buying from the Lexus dealer doesn’t guarantee a trouble free car, but big dealers that resell their older trade ins do it because the car is pretty clean, otherwise the car would just get sent to auction. These kind of places don’t need to risk hurting their reputation to make a few grand on an old car, unlike a lot of these smaller corner lots where older cars like these typically end up.

Yea I get what your saying, being a Lexus you'll see a greater percentage of them dealer & later indie maintained. btw I did buy our rx from a dealer & thats pretty much where I looked at late last yr.....I didn't see when the plugs were changed & for me turning the rotors vs new ones takes meat off of a kinda small rotor for the weight, & a dealer doing that. I use to work in a dealer body, (which btw we did all the intransit damages) across from the service dept. & if a customer couldn't afford or didn't want to pay the dealer prices on parts, the parts dept got parts from the Napa auto parts which had the same 12/12 warranty. Hopefully the OP did or will look at others.......
