Default Replacing rack and pinion

I’m looking for any advice, help, tips, tricks on replacing my rack and pinion. Do we need any special tools? Is the rack the only thing I need to buy when replacing it? Or are there any other smaller things not included that I will need? Thanks so much! How long should this job take? The lowest I have found for a shop to do it is almost $1,200.00

You cant just take the rack out you need to use the seat belt to keep the steering wheel in place also pay very close attention that you do not snap the steering shaft off the rack or destroy the threads while putting it in. A lift would make this much easier this will probably take 3-6 days without a lift and decent knowledge and seat time fixing cars.

Can this be done without dropping the sub frame or too tight?

I am 99% sure you will have to drop the subframe a bit to have some clearance.

I hope you meant 3-6 hours, not days! There is a good DIY thread on this, do a search.
