My 2008 RX350 has 85k miles and still on original rotors, shop said they can be turned one more time (for $80). I'm thinking of getting new rotors instead of spending 80 on turning them. I'm looking at RAYBESTOS 980372 Specialty rotors but can't find any reviews on them. Any suggestions on those or other brands?
In Australia I have a RH drive 2006 Rx350 built in japan . The brake pads were purchased at Rock Auto based on the USA models. Pads fitted perfectly. A friend also purchased Rotors from rockauto for his car in Australia and they fitted.
If it were me, I'd let them turn the rotors. On my 2009 Lexus RX350, I replaced the rotors. I bought Advic rotors and Akebono pads. I probably should have turned the rotors, but had read that it wasn't necessary, so I didn't. After about 12,000 miles, the front end would shake really bad when applying the brakes. Everything looked fine and the rotors weren't warped, so I turned them and replaced the pads and the shakes went away. There could be several reasons why the shakes started, but I'm glad there gone and hope they stay gone.
Going in. I Knew that I'd be throwing pads/rotors to this vehicle. Not worth turning rotors vs the cost + your taking meat off the rotors as well. I'd make sure the hub surface is cleaned up so the rotor is flat up against the hub. Your possibly going to find the the rotors are going to warp faster. Of course make sure to clean & lightly regrease the caliper slide pins. It'd also be good to flush the old brake fluid too. Stainless steel brake hoses would also help vs the oem hoses w/ miles. And of course Stoptech's BBK would be ideal.....I have know idea if the gen3 calipers would bolt on to the gen2 spindle....
Back in the day we turned rotors on almost every car that came in for brake jobs if rotors weren't too thin already
but the rotors seemed beefier for a 4k lbs vehicle back then.
For DIY I just replace with shiny new ones and I torque my rims properly and like previous poster said making sure my hubs are clean.
PS- I've heard good things about the Akebono pads but I never tried them.
To turn or not to turn... That is the question lol

I have replaced pads with akebono's couple of weeks back, so it's not the pads and shop confirmed that the rotors were warped. Anyway I got the rotors today (each weighs almost 22lb, don't know the weight of oem's) and will be installing them tomorrow.

Thats great.....My thought is to swap out the rotors when you need pads. My thoughts are the braking is kinda good, but could of been better regarding the weight of these vehicles. New SS hoses vs the old oem hoses as well as a brake fluid flush would help.
