Default Bluetooth disconnects if I leave the car

A somewhat minor problem, but now that the frigid temps are here I typically start the car to warm it up and I go back in the house for ten minutes. When I drive off the Bluetooth is not connected. I had discovered this before if I left the car (with my phone) while the car is running. No amount of fiddling with the phone's Bluetooth settings will reconnect it, but if I shut of the car and restart, it will. Anyone know how to reconnect without shutting off/restarting?

Is this the original, stock Bluetooth in the stock hardware? If so, it's pretty archaic by now. Version... what, 2.x? That tech simply wasn't very robust. Its alleged range of 33' was more like 15' (at best) in the real world, audio streaming was very limited, and connectivity/re-connectivity was extremely unreliable. The solution? It sounds like you've already found it.

I completely disabled Bluetooth in my 2006 RX330 out of frustration over how it worked (or didn't). I then installed a new Pioneer head unit (ca. 2018) and am happily and reliably using its Bluetooth connection instead. MUCH better.

I'm hoping someone will post a solution that reconnects using the HU, since reconnecting from the phone doesn't work. So far my "solutions" are to either shut off and restart the car or to remember to leave the phone in the car during warmups. As for range I'd say that smaller is better for a car. My Mercedes has such great range my calls often go to Bluetooth when I'm not even in the car. Audio streaming? Not a concern for me.
