Good day,

I have recently purchased a 2009 Lexus RX 450H LXE that needs a navigation update. I can't get a recent update from any dealer in Gauteng and I really would like to update the maps as a lot of changes has taken place on our roads since 2009. Would anyone know where I can get an update or how I can update the navigation?

Thank you kindly.

Is the 09 DVD based or hard drive? If DVD it is as easy as getting a new DVD.

I checked. It is DVD based. You will have to find out what specific DVD works with your vehicle and replace the DVD in the right side of the cargo compartment. Lift the tool cover and you should see a small plastic plate to remove. The DVD is in here and all you do is push the eject button and replace the DVD. It updates everything. It is likely that it will only update through about 2016 or 17.

Either the Lexus dealer or from someone with a copy. Since you have a 2009 450H it is most likely that Lexus have discontinued yearly updates for a 10 year old car.
Here is a video on replacing the Map DVD once you get a copy.

Just a suggestion, look on ebay for an update and follow the instructions in your owner's manual (or the one posting here) and just do it yourself. This is really not a big deal at all and going to the dealer will cost you a lot of money and time needlessly. There is a way to find the current version of what you have installed, but I readily do not know the step(s) to find that out. You can find that out also in your owner's manual or do a search on this site.

According to this, to update your Nav Map, only the dealer can do this with some access key tool that loads in your Nav HDD.

If this applies to your vehicle, it looks like a lengthy process hence the dealer not wanting to work with your issue.

Hope it turns out well for you.

Not sure how this applies. It does not mention the 09 RX. This is for hard drive applications not DVD.

Dont know how accurate this is but,
Per Lexus Wiki:

"Introduced in 2009 as a 2010 model year vehicle, the RX 450h (GLV10/GLV15) premiered alongside its non-hybrid counterpart, the RX 350."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lexus_RX

So really there is no 2009 RX450H
It was sold in 2009 as a 2010 model.

Aircon issue
Yes. Thanks for the responses. It does seem I have a 2009 (car registered in 2009) but the shape is the same as the 2010 shape.
I have tried Amazon, ebay, etc. However, they only advertise the North America dvd...I'm in South Africa.
I will continue to look and let you know how it pans out. Thanks for the responses.

I am not sure I understand. Do you have a 2009 model or a 2010? There is a big difference. If it is a 2010, then the only way to update the maps is through the dealer not a DVD. I knew you are in S. Africa so maybe something is different there than here in the US.

Was this ever resolved? I sit with the same problem and find it difficult to believe this navi system updates is not supported in RSA

Well, I guess allowing for inflation, since it's now 2021, my installation quote was $425, plus cost of update, which he said they would have to order. And BTW, the 2009's, according to this gentleman, will only be updated to 2015. I think I'll look for the disc on ebay and do it myself....again. (My 2009 is dated March 2008, which I assume makes it a true 2009. Waiting on my disc to arrive from Bonanza. Thank you, CaptStumpy!)

If you have a true 2009 Gen 5 its a 5 minute job.
I got my update from here:

https://www.bonanza.com/listings/200...?fref=XaCLHKl1

If you live on the west you want this one:

If you have an early 2010 you can't update without a dealer.
