Default 2008 Rx 350 Hatch lift support problem.

The rear door opens OK, but while closing, it comes down half way then opens back up. I purchased parts online and replaced them TWICE ! but did not correct the problem.

What did you replace and what brand parts?

I'd be willing to bet the part you have is for the non-power hatch.

Default 2008 RX 350 Hatch Lift Support Problem

I replaced the 2 hatch lift supports (struts) twice. Purchased the parts online. But problem did not fix. The door opens fine but closes half way then opens back up. Then I have to manually press down. I am trying to avoid a visit to Lexus Dealer for an expensive repair. Please advice.

I replaced both hatch lift supports, made by "BOXI" ($40.00)
. Lexus dealer thinks, genuine Lexus parts (over $500.00) would solve the problem and it is NOT a 'motor' problem. Please advice.

I'm with the dealer on the issue could be the struts, OEM is your best bet but with research you can buy non OEM. Check with whoever sold you the BOXI struts and see if it is for the motorized lifts. I know the RX and Highlander share many parts and many manufacturers don't always recognize small differences such in this case with the motor lift vs non-motor lift.
