Default Tail Light relay

Wondering if anyone knows what the relay is called for aftermarket tail lights so as not to have the error message appear on the dash to indicate a tail light bulb has gone out. The lights I am getting do not look to have this relay so I need to source the component. I also am in no mood to remove the bulb for the warning light.

I think you need to change your bulbs to ones with resistors. That will keep the warning light out. The LEDs don't use enough amperage and the warning system thinks the bulb is burnt out.

It isn't a relay that keeps the bulb failure light from coming on. It is a resistor. Some bulbs will have the resistor built in and other won't. You can buy the resistor separately and then cut it into the wiring.

The after market lights are LED so not conventional bulbs.

Right...Some aftermarket LEDs have a resistor built into them that keep the error light from coming on. These bulbs might also be called "error-free" or "Can-Bus" bulbs. If the LED does not have the resistor built in, you will need an in line resistor. Here are links.

Here is an example of an inline resistor.

Here is an example of a bulb with no built in resistor....This will set off the the error light if youo do not have the above inline resistor.

This is a bulb with a built in resistor. This won't set off any error lights.

Excellent Jakenbake. Just the information I was after. I will install the new lights once I have them and see if I need them or not.
