Hello. I will be needing brake rotors soon. I am considering the Centrix premium rotors from Rock auto. Does anyone have experience with these? Or, any other recommendations?

 

A very good rotor, you can't go wrong with Centrix Premium.

 

I suggest also checking the price for OEM rotors at Sewell Lexus using the Club Discount. When I had our local Lexus dealer replaced the brakes and rotors on my 07 ES and RX 2 years ago they matched the price which turned out to be LESS than the price that the dealer would have charged me for machining our existing rotors.

 

I have Centrics at all 4 corners with akebono brake pads. No issues at all and love them.

 

i just replaced mine from rock auto about 5 weeks ago, i went with the Raybestos Professional grade. No issues, great fitment. would buy them again.

 

Do yourself a favor - purchase a clicker torque wrench, set it at 76 ft pounds and carry it in the car. Anytime someone remounts the wheels and before driving it for any distance, re-torque the lug screws. IMHO, it's the best way to keep rotor warping from happening.

rotor warping has more to do with heat dissipation. when the rotor thickness gets low, it is more likely to happen.

i have also seen where some heavy braking was done, then the driver drove through a puddle, instantly cooling the rotors, this caused a warped situation,

 

Rotors rarely if ever warp. The vibration that occurs is because of pad material and adhesive fused to the rotor surface causing an imbalance. And in the rare instance where a rotor did warp then resurfacing would not be a solution because the rotor will be warped beyond just the very outer surface.

You cannot warp a rotor from over tightening the lugs the studs will break first. Not to mention the inner part of the rotor is in direct contact with the hub, warping the rotor would require deforming the hub.

 

Rotors will warp when you do not torque your caliper bolts properly. Ask me why I know. I think it is 40 ft-lbs.

Your wheel nuts are another matter, they have to be torqued right as well, at 76 Ft-lbs. This is a safety factor in addition to potential vibration.

95% of the time according to my friends at dealers (1 GM 1 Lexus) the rotors don't warp, if ever. They do pickup brake pad material and that causes the brake pedal pulsation. I had the problem and pulled my rotors off and sure enough, that is exactly what it was. Clean it off (might be tough stuff!) but that worked wonders.

 

FWIW, I always use factory pads - never had pad material deposited on the rotors.
