Default Dropped screws for stereo into console

Oops!!! I was installing the GROM Bluetooth adapter and I dropped two of the screws down the hatchet. One was already missing when I opened it up!! Is there any way to open the console thing and retrieve them? I read in another thread that the screws are 10mm. Is this a standard screw I can find at Home Depot? I don't know anything about this stuff. I'm surprised I was able to even install it myself without screwing my car up!!!

Exactly the same thing happened to me while installing the iphone adapter. I located one of 2 screws I dropped with a telescoping-swiveling mirror and then used a telescoping magnetic pickup to retrieve them both.

A telescoping magnet tool is relatively easy to find, even in HI, and need not be expensive.

+1 on this. I also used mine to re-install the screws when I was putting it back together. It is powerful enough to get the screw started in the thread.

If you have a Harbor Freight Tools, you can find telescoping magnets and mirrors on the cheap there

Before I posted I checked the HF web site and could not find any there on the islands. Why I went with the part from Sears.

Same thing happened to me when I was installing the Grom adaptor. I just ordered a telescopic magnet too.

If you're coming here from Google (probably standing in a hardware store) the answer to the question appears to be M6-1.00-16. That's what worked for my 2006 RX400h.

I also lost both screws. I was able to retrieve one of them with the telescopic magnet (thanks to the suggestions here). I can't find the other one though. Can I just leave it there or are there fragile stuff down there? I have a non-hybrid if it matters. Even with a mirror I can not find it.

Yes you can leave it it there. I fished around for it with a magnet, also looked with a borescope with no avail, so left it and hit up an Ace Hardware picked up a new one all has been good since.

To others attemtping this simply put a shop towel or micro fibre underneath when removing stereo bolts thi should stop them from dropping into the abyss
