Default Dimmer switch - 2009 RX350

We just purchased this vehicle and I did so knowing the switch to the left of the steering wheel was broken. The switch both dims the interior lights and toggles and resets the trip meter. The dealer wants $265 which seems a bit excessive for plugging in a new switch.

Can anyone help me with the part# and a vendor? I've looked on rock auto but I can't locate the correct part. Thanks for your help!

Welcome to Club Lexus, XX14.

As this is a body part you are not going to find it at places like RockAuto. Are you referring to what is listed as #6 on the illustration found on page 130 of your Owner's Manual?

Believe it is 84119 in the following:

Sewell is a sponsor here at CL. You did not say what color of the trim piece you had, so I will leave it here. The switch, as you can see, is not cheap and the dealer is also probably charging you 1 hour for labor which is more than likely the book rate for this task. You do not get charged for how long the task actually takes, you get charged by what the book says should be charged for the repair.

84119 is the part I need. It's sandalwood. That's definitely pricey and I guess if the dealer does it it's $100 labor for two minutes! Wish I could make money like that. Thanks for your help.

Just curious... Has anyone else reported needing to replace this part? I just can't figure out how this gets broken. The rest of the car is in perfect condition.

If you register at the Sewell website and check off that you are a member of Club Lexus they will apply a discount to your purchase.

Ended up ordering this from lexuspartsnow. $135 delivered. Thanks for everyone's thoughts. Still confused about how this breaks.

It is a rheostat... dump a cup of coffee on it, or any other similar scenario, and there you go. Could have also been a problem during production. There is probably a listing at Toyota Corporate indicating a percentage of failure for parts like this on your RX.
