Someone obviously not very good at parallel parking left me a not so nice scratch on a bumper.
I'd rather try to retouch it myself first, since I guess a body shop would suggest to remove and repaint the whole thing for a fairly high price...
What would the forum wisdom suggest as the best paint around for such job?
Colour is the classic silver 1F7, if that matters.
The original paint is a three step process -- base color, pearl coat, clear coat. Anything else is just a compromise. Would just get the dealer available touch-up paint.
Yeah, I know that any DIY job won't be perfect.
On the other hand, I've seen on Sewell website that there is a (supposedly) OEM touch-up kit, so that made me hope to get at least a decent result without repainting the whole bumper.
Just wondering if it's worth ordering the above stuff from Sewell, or any other touch-up kit available in car parts stores will be ok.
I've seen for instance some "Duplicolor" branded stuff which, among all colours, is also available in the Toyota/Lexus 1F7...
Thanks for the suggestion, I had never seen that stuff.
It seems pretty much focused on stone chips, though.
And also looking at how it works, I would guess that it's not equally good for scratches...
Or am I mistaken?
When my RX330 was reared, the rear bumper got long ugly scratch. I found independent guys (who actually did paint repair for Lexus dealership as well) and for $150 they fixed it perfectly. Didn't remove bumper from the car, BTW. It's plastic and no problem with with dents, just sanding and painting.
This stuff looks great for my hood. I have a few of those small chips from rocks and such. This past weekend, while on the freeway, the jerk in front of me threw an empty soda can out of his POS car and hit the hood of my car. Left another nice little chip in the hood. I have a feeling I am going to have to try these guys out.
