Paint???
Which do you guys like for Lexus???
DuPont or PPG??
I heard DuPont is better for shine and harder (thus easier for chips)
PPG is more flexible so less chips.
Any truth to that? Which would you choose?

I always heard Standox is the best. When I was looking to get my spoiler painted, all the places that used Standox charged a lot. Recently, I got in a car accident and the body shop I went to use PPG paint for my front bumper and fenders. The quality seems pretty good and it came out to match very well.

Glasurit is also a high end paint line. I've sprayed a lot of it in a former life and wouldn't hesitate to use it again.
I don't have enough experience with Dupont to comment about them, but if the shop is using their top line I wouldn't be afraid of it.
My dad's GS and my wife's RX bumper both done in Global.

Just too many variables to give you an accurate answer. At a minimum you're looking at 30 to 36 hours of paint labor multiplied by the shops hourly rate. Figure $22 to $24 and hour for materials multiplied by the number of paint hours. Then factor in R&I time for all the trim (assuming you don't want your car masked off like some half-assed Maaco special). Any bodywork need done? Panels need repaired or stripped for stone chips? Short answer is it gets into the thousands pretty quickly. We don't even give estimates for paint jobs as it's proven to blow 99.9% of the people out of the water, we stick to collision repairs only.

Anyone know if Kalifornia mandates the use of waterborne paint??? IF so, should I still see if I can request a Global clear coat?
And as a rough guide, I think a proper complete paint job without body work will run $4-5K easy.

I agree, but no body work needed at all, matter of fact something like a whole car respray instead of a FULL blown paint job since I want to keep the same color. 1G0. I your experience what do you guide as an average estimate...

Kali VOC laws vary by county. Some require water some don't. Depending on what their standards are they may or may not be able to use Global clear. You can ask the shop you'd like to use what they spray or you can find a local PPG jobber in the phone book and ask them if they could recommend a Global shop.
