Default Door doesn't unlock with electronic key?$700+

2005 RX330- My rear passenger door doesn't always unlock when I press unlock on the key. It seems like lately it hardly ever unlocks automatically. I was just at the lexus dealer and they said this is because my lock needs to be replaced and eventually it won't work at all. They said the part is $700!!

Does this seem even remotely reasonable? Does anyone have any other suggestions? I would ignore this except it's the door behind the driver's door which is the one I use frequently to put things in the back seat.

Thanks.

Dealer is always expensive. I haven't had such issue with my RX. But I had similiar issue with my Ford Explorer with multiple doors and I repaired those by myselves. It takes some dianose to understand exactly what was went wrong.

If you are DIY guy, you can try to open the door and take a look. Ebay may have parts for you to replace. It is about $140 to $250 range.

Otherwise I would suggest that you go to Toyota dealer for 2nd opinion.

As posted earlier, removing the door panel is fairly easy, might be the actuator or just lubricated real good.
Front left actuator from rockauto.com is: STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS Part # DLA345 $170.79. They do not list any for the other doors which is odd.
I'll be putting in some LED's in all the lower door panels next weekend, will see what's in there.

On the RX there is no key lock on any of the other doors. Just the driver door. Perhaps that is what you are seeing.

Perhaps this URL may be of use:

http://lexus.sewellparts.com/oem-cat...X330-2005.html

Those who have registered with Sewell as Club Lexus members will see their discounted price when they are logged in.

Also, if you know a good independent mechanic they could probably do the work for much less and will more than likely order their parts from WorldPac who supplies many shops with OEM product.

Understood there is no 'key' lock but there is an actuator as listed on Seawell diagram.

The lock motor is getting weak. On the RX300 Forums we have been able to repair them for $5 insteal of the $270 for the part and then labor. Lots of writeups on the doors in the RX300 forum. I havent had the pleasure to break into one of these second generation doors yet. but I suspect the same problems...see here:

Understood. What I was stating was that the actuator for the driver's door is probably unique than the other doors and perhaps the reason why the one you found only mentions that one door. Somewhere in their system should be another actuator for another door or doors for the RX.
