I think that blackness is the deposit that overheats when you use the high beams in a normal manner that then causes the bulb to melt. If you compare your bulbs to a new set, you'll see that the blackness is not normal, even if they bulb hasn't melted.

I agree. New are clear and the ones I have are definitely not clear at this time. Just not melted or deformed in any manner. Still working on a replacement kit for my front headlights to include all new bulbs. New ones will be in the 4100K to 4300K range to give me a bit whiter of a light instead of the OEM yellow.
