Someone tried stealing my Lexus
#16
This happened in the Clinton Hill section of Brooklyn, New York.
One of the guys at the dealership said that it was done by amateurs because they would never get in the car that way, and said the best way to do it was to slide a piece between the glass and door and that way the whole unit would pop out. I was thinking wouldn't that break the glass and oh great, the dealers knows the perfect way to steal cars.

I would really like to think that between the Alarm system,AND the electronic (not being able to even start the car) stuff we have on these things. That they would not get too far.

Thieves break into cars not only to highjack them. They do it to steal parts such as air bags, stereos, NAVI units, etc…

Someone tried breaking into my lx470 as well did the same thing pried something into the door and tried opening door in a parking lot... Failed tho. But that part is not hard to replace i did it myself went to lexus to get part and took inside door panel off and replaced it in about 20 mins. Not hard at all. The key i have to settle with not being the same but it doesnt matter anyway because the keyless entry system still unlocks all doors off the remote. So... All they really did was cause me some troubles. Parts was cheaper than i thought.

I had similar experience with RX350 as well; some poor as*holes were trying to steal it at night (only in 2 weeks after I bought it).
They were able to get in and broke ignition switch too. Insurance company paid $3000 to dealer for fixing everything (took more than a week to get parts + replace them).
