Default Lexus temporary insurance coverage?

Hi Ok so I was going to go try to purchase my IS250 tomorrow Saturday BUT my insurance broker told me not to drive off the dealer lot without coverage. Unfortunately he's out of town tomorrow so I wouldn't be able to get my insurance with him then which means I would have to wait til Monday at the earliest.

I do not currently have any insurance policy. Does anyone know if Lexus has any sort of temporary coverage? Price?

Thank you!

As long as you have an insurance policy, and surly you do otherwise a dealer would not be selling your a car, you're covered for something like 14 days under your current policy and need to notify the company within 30 days, as I understand it, I could be mistaken though and maybe that's not consistent with all insurers. This is what I was told from my insurance company (Farmers) and my g/f's (AAA).

Well in that case the dealer probably isn't even going to sell you a car because you'll have no proof of insurance...

forgive me for being so dumb. But Mercury told me I need a car's VIN to get insurance. Wouldnt that be something that is done AFTER a car is bought? How could I give them a VIN from a car that I don't even have?

The dealer, or you, will call the insurance broker with the VIN as part of the selling process once you have a signed sales contract on a specific car. They can't start the registration process and title application with your State without insurance confirmation.

I was overseas for five years and had no car and no insurance when I returned to the good old USA. When I bought my car the dealer had Geico's, Progressive's and a few other insurance companies phone numbers handy. I just called, gave the agent my information (SSN, VIN) and they gave me a policy right over the phone, paid by a credit card. Then 10 minutes later they faxed a copy of the insurance binder to the dealer so the deal could be completed. It's done all the time. Don't sweat it.

Just show the proof of insurance for your current car.

The OP does not have a car currently, hence, no current insurance. He stated that in one of his prior posts.

You tell your broker that if he wants to keep your business then he finds someone to pitch in for him while he's out. His clients lives don't come to a halt because he takes vacation.

Like he said. The salesperson that I had discussed purchasing the IS F with decided that he was going to be difficult to get an appointment with so I went ahead and bought the car from one of his collegues.

Just get the insurance from someone else. Your life shouldn't be on hold because he decided he's going to be out of town while you're purchasing your car. There's plenty of brokers out there.

I see. Then he needs to buy insurance on-line with a credit card at least for one month (right there at the dealer), to get out the door. Followup with better long term insurance the following week.

I had a relative (first time car buyer) do this on Sunday afternoon as stated above, even when he paid cash for a 2 year old Sonata. To drive off the lot he needed proof of insurance.

I am an Insurance Broker. Every state has different regulation reqarding insurance.
Most dealers have a broker "on-call" to bind coverage on the spot. You need to shop around for the best and cost effective coverage. The dealers guy will give you the quickest minimum option to get the car off the lot. Call an independent agent to get the best advice. You can find local agents here: http://www.iiaba.net
