RX330 Front Wheel Bearings - DIY Step by Step
#31
All, managed to replace my front right bearing, took hub off brought to shop for press then re installed. BUT, the humming noise I used to have is still there!!! I was quite confident it was the front right bearing as the noise went away while turning right, appears while turn left. Increase with speed, louder after longer run (more than 15mins). What else can it be? Will a rear right wheel bearing caused this noise? It's low humming sounds like tires running on rough surface. I have already swapped tire out one by one but still there... Any suggestion? thanks

It really depends what method works for you, but I will chock both rear wheels and jack up front end with jack stands and spin the wheel with gear shift "N" and parking brake ON, check CV shaft seal oil leaking and use a screw drive [stethoscope] to listen noise on knuckle and transfer case while wheel spinning.

this thread is dealing with the same issue as my newbie with cv axle/bearing issue, so repeating here to see if anyone has some input into diagnosis options. I have used the stethoscope while turning front wheels and rear wheels. Fronts are much harder to turn (even in N, as I have FWD only). But not able to discern which bearing is bad. I want to run it in gear with front wheels off the ground. Anyone done this, and is so, did you have to pull the ABS fuse?
Update: 10/21/17
Pulled the 2 square abs fuses (this disables the abs, vsc, and traction control). Put up on stands, blocked rear wheels, left parking brake on. Ran it up to 60 mph, no problem, was able to use a scope to hear passenger side distinctly more noisy. Am ordering a new Timken bearing and a hub (Amazon about $60 for both). Local shop will press for $20.

I know this is an old thread. I'm hoping someone is reading this perhaps htownblue.
The pictures appear out of sync or from a different album. Is this able to be corrected? It would help tremendously for learning about this job.
