Default Back and Forth Rocking while in Park

I can swear this is new issue on my 08 RX. When putting the car in park ("P" on transmission) on a flat plane, the car is easily pushed back and forth, its even become more evident when trying to load groceries, etc.

Has anyone had similar problems? Could this be a transmission issue, i.e. something got loose and its giving way to all the movement?

thank you for insights

I think it's quite normal. When you put car in park, it doesn't become glued to the pavement.

When you put the car in "Park", a pin slides forth and blocks a transmission gear. There always is a little play between the pin and the tooth (teeth) of the transmission. Same on all cars.

You could put the E brake on and it might stiffen the sway.

Great idea! Could it have any other applications? I mean, outside of the automobile world.

Might even glue it to the pavement better.

But, seriously don't worry about it, that's normal for every car out there.

Some older GM cars come to mind, really had a space in the parking pawl. I remember parking my mom`s 77 Grand Prix on our driveway, which had a nice slope. And I thought the friggin thing was going to run over me before it caught. of course I started using the parking brake shortly after. I got tired of trying to get the damn thing out of park when I would drive it again. Because the weight of the vehicle was resting on that pawl. I remember hearing that CLUNG! when it would finally release.

My old Dodge Dakota did the same thing and I thought it was because the truck had a positive rear end in it. That was fun to drive in the dirt because the rear end would get around so fast.
